Black Racer GT is an AWESOME Axe!
I'm blown away by how nice the black GT Racer is. Beautiful design and attention to craftmanship from WestCreek. I used to have a higher-end Epiphone SG that I loved playing -- similar models go for about $750 these days -- and I did not expect a $220 guitar from China to be its equal. But it is! I'd just as soon play this Racer as a Gibson SG that costs ten times as much; I suspect the only appreciable difference would be the cost of the pickups. My Racer arrived in flawless condition right out of the box. I expected to spend a lot of time doing my own set-up, so I was amazed at how well everything was constructed and set up already. I prefer the lowest possible action, and the Racer was set super low. So low that it had a little buzz in only the first fret, which I easily eliminated with about a quarter turn of both screws that raise the saddle level. Intonation needed a slight adjustment. Both before and after my action adjustment, the notes at the 12th fret went a few cents flat on the low E, A, and D string. I easily fixed this with several turns of the individual saddle screws on those three stings, and didn't need to do a thing to the other three strings. I only mention these details to illustrate how minor they are -- they took a very leisurely twenty-five minutes to get sorted -- and in what great shape this guitar arrived at my door. The neck needed no adjustment, the frets feel perfectly smooth and rounded along both sides of the neck, the electronics have zero problems, the finish is uniformly gorgeous, and I can't find a single detail to be unhappy with. If you prefer an ultra-light electric, you might find the Racer a bit on the heavy side. Like an SG, it has a mahogany body, and it has some weight to it. I am guessing the maple neck is a set neck (glued into place), because it certainly isn't a bolt-on. The result is a guitar that feels like a solid slab, and you can feel the neck and body resonate as one when plucking the open strings. The weight, when standing to play, is not as well-balanced as my old Ibanez Iceman (another amazing guitar in the $750 range that the Racer would hold its own against), but better balanced than my old ESP Baritone Viper (which was awesome but a bit of a beast). Overall, the weight and balance are comparable to an actual SG, and quite comfortable for me. I find that when I'm sitting to play, a little boost under my right foot supports the guitar and gets everything in the most comfortable position. The fretboard feels very close to flat, which I prefer and am happy about, but you might consider this fact if you prefer a more Strat-style neck with a noticeably curved radius. The curve and shape of the back of the neck feels super comfortable in my hand, as does the width. My hands might be on the smallish side for guitarists -- I can't do huge stretches like Van Halen, Hendrix, and Holdsworth -- and I'm an unremarkably average 5-feet-9-inches build. So, maybe someone bigger or smaller than me might have different feedback on the neck shape and the overall weight. It's important to find a guitar that fits you personally. If WestCreek ever wants to do their version of an Iceman body style with this quality of craftmanship, I'll be one of the first to buy it. For now, I am having a blast re-learning "Midnight" by Joe Satriani on this axe. She's beautiful.

The Westcreek Racer is hands down the best guitar you can get for this price!!!
What's there not to like about this guitar? Absolutely nothing. Mahagony body, Bone Nut, Finished fret ends. Just those 3 things you will rarely find on a guitar in this price range. Couple those things with an incredibly tasteful cool shape, a great finish, an overall killer vibe and you have the quintessential best bang for your buck. It showed up in 2 days, boxed very well. When I opened it, the action was nice and low, no fret buzz of any kind and the intonation was spot on. It plays, sounds and looks awesome. I Highly, Highly suggest you get one!!! I will be rocking out on this thing for years to come. Way to go Westcreek, for making an incredibly affordable guitar with such quality!!!!! Thank you.

Build quality is surprising
So many reviews compare the new, inexpensive guitar to the writer’s Gibson, PRS or $1000+ Fender. I don’t have any of those. I buy cheap guitars because I can afford them! This WestCreek Racer has been one good surprise after another. The box it came in looked like it had been trampled by the entire Amazon warehouse staff. I opened it to find the guitar in its original box. Hands down the BEST packed box I’ve ever received. The guitar was in a soft “foam” bag SURROUNDED by precut styrofoam that cradled this particular model. No scratches, polished to near perfection, one tiny ding that had to have happened during manufacture. The set neck is astounding, not a baseball bat but not a thin c-shape either. Feels perfect right in the middle. Smoothed into the body so we’ll it almost feels like a neck-thru. Fretboard & frets- best I’ve EVER received without a real luthier crown and polish set up. No burs, polished to mirror-like shine, no buzz anywhere (seems too good to be true), fretboard could use a little oil, but couldn’t they all!?! Almost perfectly intonated . Only two strings were off. Action was good. Pickups sound a little tinny even after adjusting height and pole pieces. By tinny I mean thin and lacking warmth. For how well this guitar plays, I’ll accept that as a low point. I can replace them with EXACTLY what I want. It balances- no neck dive. Slab style body helps with that weight in the body not the neck, yet it is still a light guitar. Not so light it feels cheap, just a happy medium. All in all, the best neck I’ve ever felt on a new guitar, fantastic packaging, love the shape. I could do without the racer boy, Fast & Furious stripes (though they are well done and under the clear coat). All in all, I’ll be trying more West Creek guitars. For my first experience, maybe I lucked out, I don’t believe that’s the case; but for its price point quality control, build quality, materials, fit and finish were all better than the equivalently priced Epiphones & Squiers I have purchased. The only reason I dont give it 5 stars is because of the pickups. However, the everyone else may love them & I could be the odd man out. It’s all personal & relative. Damn fine guitar with features that are well executed even on a guitar costing 3 times as much.

WestCreek Racer-good buy
This is a great guitar for the price. Purchased the yellow model and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and sound. Comfortable to play and stays in tune pretty well. I'd have to get real picky to say that the only very minor problem with the otherwise beautiful finish is that mine has a couple tiny pin points of black paint in the yellow finish. But you have to really scrutinize the instrument to even spot these. Would highly recommend this guitar. You absolutely cannot beat the $200 price tag for a guitar of this quality. Perfect for a first guitar or for a more advanced player.

Shocked!!!!
I've been playing since 1986 and have owned guitars in this price range, all the way up to $4k. Right out of the box, this guitar completely surprised me. 1st, I didn't realize it was neck thru construction, which is a huge bonus. The action was already low and was ready to play after a tune up. I tuned it D-D thinking the pickups would be muddy and had already planned to switch the bridge pickup. Ummm, I think I'll keep the stock pickups in it. I was shocked on how clear and articulate they are. I was playing Obituary, Crue and Ghost and the pickups chugged right along with no muddiness at all. Next, the electronics were something else I was expecting to switch out. Nope! Full size pots and capacitors. The volume pot rolled back really nicely. I am also really impressed with the frets. Stainless steel with rolled edges. Honestly, I've bought 1k plus guitars I've had to file down the fret ends. That is always frustrating. The rosewood fretboard feels great and no issues at all with the fretboard. I wasn't sure what to expect with the tuners and like everything else I thought I'd have to replace...NOPE...guitar stayed in perfect tune after a few minutes of playing. Also, the paint on my Racer looks amazing and literally no flaws at all. Lastly, for $200 bucks (or other high end guitars), you will be hard pressed to find another guitar this nice. I plan on grabbing a couple more of these as I'm that impressed. Keep up the high quality and don't be afraid to pull the trigger on buying one.

Nice guitar
The paint is shiny and is more like a metallic dark slate or very dark gun metal color, which is even better than expected. There is only one flaw in the finish at the top of the neck pickup (see pic), it looks like they naught have over tightened the screw, but it took me a little time to even notice and it doesn’t bother me. The neck is easy to play with total clearance to the 22nd fret. The neck feels like an older style Jackson neck and fretboard. Has stainless medium/jumbo frets that are rounded on the ends, but even smoother feeling than others I’ve played recently. The inlay work is fantastic and like you’ll see in a guitar 4x this price. There is a serious amount of buzzing coming from 1-4 frets on all strings because the nut isn’t properly filed down. Also the intonation on the D and A strings is off slightly. And a few frets need to be leveled. Not a big deal for me because I’m going to change strings and set everything up properly. If you are getting this for a beginner you should definitely have someone set it up for you and it’ll play like a dream. Well worth the money and a great playing guitar at any skill level.

Wow! Does not feel or sound like $200
Wow. Absolutely can’t believe this is a $200 guitar. I’ve been playing around 40 years and have owned guitars from this price up to custom guitars that were almost $4000. I have not run across any other guitars in this price range that compare. Finish is flawless and absolutely gorgeous. Very unique and has a classic muscle car kind of vibe. Tuners are smooth and functional. I will most likely replace them at some point with some guyker locking tuners, but no rush as these have no issues. I just prefer locking tuners for ease of string changes. Playable out of the box with a nice mid/low action with no buzz, high enough that I can really dig in without rattling and low enough to play with very little effort. The fret work appears to be good enough that it could be lowered without issue, but it’s exactly what I prefer out of the box. The stainless frets are very smooth and comfortable no sharp edges no extra work needed The neck is a very comfortable C shape a tad narrower than a typical SG almost strat like. Very resonant, I can feel the body vibrating with each chord, unplugged it has a nice midrangey growl and bite. I fully expected to be changing pickups and electronics but after playing it plugged in I see no reason for now. Nice fat but clear tone and full sized pots were a nice surprise as well. Bone nut is well cut with no binding issues Overall I’m extremely impressed And would expect to pay in the neighborhood of $700-$800 for something similar. This was an anniversary present from my beautiful wife and I’ll have to say she did very well I’m enjoying it

Heard it was good…
I heard this was a great guitar from several people, online and a friend of mine across the country. I received it, it was in good working order, except that there is binding at the nut on the B string. Also, the pick up height had not been adjusted and they sounded terrible until I made the adjustment. There is also static in one of the volume knobs. I guess for the price, it is a good value, but it didn’t work out of the box flawlessly like so many other reviewers had said. It is a nice guitar, but know that you might have to make some adjustments, which is understandable for the price. I love what they’re trying to do. Just not going into another one blind.
