Nicest sharpener I have ever used

I purchased my Kadet Pro during the black Friday sale, and a such mine did seem to have some minor cosmetic issues. Slight scratches and wear marks, like maybe it had been used slightly. I do wish these were available with the black anodizing that would be nice.Besides cosmetics this thing really performs. The setup was quite simple and I got to sharpening some knives very quickly. The only thing that held me up was adjusting the length of the plate holder, out of the box it was too loose for the supplied plates. In starting sharpening the diamond plates start at 150 grit, this creates a new bevel very quickly, and I mean less than a minute. Moving up the grits kind of gets progressively slower as the finer grits remove less material as you go. Within a about 5 minutes I was able to complete a sharpening up to the 1000 grit plate. This would leave a bur on the oposite side that you finish on, so some stropping is needed to remove this. I do wish there where some finer grits, and perhaps a stropping plate available from TSPROF. Overall this system created a very precise bevel, straightens and removed old bevel errors or knicks in the blade very quickly. I am quite happy with this so far.Cons, or things that I wish were better.The plate holder stop is secured with a M3 set screw, this is extremly tiny, difficult to adjust and can strip out easily. I really wish they had used a larger set screw, or even some small thumb knob. I have one add on plate that is a little longer, and it is a pain to use as I have to adjust this stop every time. Maybe a longer holding spring could have also acomadated a larger range of plates.Due to the dificulty in adjusting the plate holder, it would be nice if I could buy a spare plate holder for my longer plate, this would make this change super easy.Figuring out the sharpening angles, is kind of tricky, it would have been helpful if there were angle numbers printed on the scale, rather than pictures of knife styles. I am sure I will dial this in over time, but a struggle for now.As previously mentioned, the highest plates that come with the system are 1000 grit. I have been used to sharpening my knives to 4000-6000 grit, so this seems kind of course. I will be looking into some other options be able to finish on this system to a higher grit. That being said, 1000 grit is perfectly useable although somewhat toothy, works fine for a steak knife.I do own several knife sharpening systems, such as Lansky, Worksharp and stones. But this I my favorite for now!

If you know the name TSPROF, you know it’s legendary. They are top of the line sharpening systems at a premium price.This all-silver edition is the Black Friday special, which comes around only once a year. What makes this different than the regular Kadet is primarily it’s not anodized, and because it’s sold at a heavy discount the quality control is (likely) much worse. But hey, it’s usually 40% off the sticker price for this Black Friday special so you can’t beat that.I just received mine, fast shipping in two days. I was so excited, I felt like I was opening a Red Rider BB gun on Christmas just like the movie. But to my shock: the quality control on this thing is garbage! The hash marks aren’t even straight, there’s gashes through them, & there’s scratch marks all over my unit… Even though I got it 40% off I still paid a ton of money. This is heinous!Opening an expensive brand, new item like this, and looking at defects all over it, leaves such a bad taste in my mouth after this experience. It’s like getting a great deal on a new car, but you realize it’s gently used. or you’re getting an upgraded seat on the airplane with plenty of legroom, only to get there and realize there’s someone 3x your size sitting next to you eating tuna sandwiches. The excitement, followed by the utter disappointment.I tried contacting the company, and as I have found others say it’s not existent. The quickest AND ONLY email I ever heard back from took 3 1/2 days to get a response that didn’t even answer my question. And the answer supplied was actually incorrect. The phone number? Lol yea right. Rings and rings until it disconnects. I finally looked up the company and called the Main Line in Russia, and after my third attempt to communicate speaking English, they simply hung up the phone.And this is why KME or Hapstone are better. Is this unit built incredibly sturdy? Is the machined milled aluminum everywhere stunning and precise? Without a doubt. But it’s the most expensive item with the worst quality control and mon-existent customer service. Am I happy that I have it? Sure. Does it make me want to build my own and melt this down to seek for scrap metal? 100%.Purchase at your own risk. Proceed with caution. Have a low expectations.
