Perfect for my application
Purchased it to communicate with family members in our property in southern Europe. It exceeded our expectations: Not only did it handle the 3 story reinforced concrete house without any problem, it allowed communication (3-4 km away) with the nearby village. even under no direct "line-of-sight" conditions. Communication is clear and battery life up to par. Required FCC license was easy to obtain. We are very pleased with the price and the performance.

Worked for us!
Worked well for our festival. Range was sufficient, easy to operate. Volume worked well when the music ramped up.

Verified clear at 3 miles in slightly rolling terrain.
I fully discharged the walkie talkies and measured 3.5 hours from zero to full charge. Range tests were performed on rolling farmland. Even without direct line-of-sight we were easily understood at a distance of 3 miles. There are no fancy controls, just a channel knob, a volume control, a push-to-talk switch, a light switch and a squelch override switch. A high-pitched mechanical voice tells you the channel number when you change. The belt clip is fairly easy to install, requiring a very small phillips screwdriver. Battery packs install easily but should never need to be removed. Charging stations have USB inputs and a charge LED, red for charging and green for done. They do not appear to be regulated, so once green remove the walkie-talkie to prevent over-charging and loss of battery life. Seriously, for $12.50 each these work as good as the $75/each Motorola units I'm replacing, there's no LCD display to fade or quit, they're light weight, and run for hours! These have been a godsend for communications with my son's Boy Scout troop when we're hiking or boating or driving, and for farming they are fantastic for keeping in communications where we want something we don't have to look at while operating heavy equipment. They're not as heavy as the rugged Motorola units, but for this money I'll just buy another set!

Read for the secret to programing this radio.
Where to start. I ranked this review 5 stars so hopefully it shows at the top and people read it. I really think the radios should get three or four stars because the manual is terrible.A lot of people reviewing these radios have no clue how GMRS radios work. Channels 1-14 are shared with the FRS and are low power channels, you won't get as much range if you use them. Channels 15-22 are high power channels, you will get better range with them. Channels 23-38 are for repeater use, you can't talk directly radio to radio, they transmit and receive on different frequencies, you need a repeater in the middle. So people saying the channels don't work are wrong, they just don't know how to use those channels.Next, the manual is crap, there are privacy codes you can use, all the channels have privacy codes configured, nothing in the manual tells you how what they are or how to change them, so unless you know what they are, it's difficult to get another brand radio to talk to these radios. But here is the secret: These radios are a clone of a Baofeng MP31. Buy a Baofeng programing cable, go to the Baofeng web site and down load the programing software for the MP31 GMRS radio. Install the software, plug the cable into the speaker mike jack, turn the radio on and the audio to full volume and go to town programing your privacy codes.

I was impressed
I have to say I was pretty impressed. my grand kids took them on their bikes, clear up to the school, about 2 miles away. and we could talk just fine. no programing required. just charge and use.

Works for about 4/5 of a mile, Channels do NOT all work. Cute and small
Worked ok for 4/5 of a mile with trees and houses in the way, for 20 bucks no issue at all. Channels 22 -> 38 do not work, seems both radios can get and transmit but neither will receive. For the price, well keep these, but would have liked to at least have features that were advertised. I do like the lack of buttons - easy for the wife (none-techy) to use and less likely to break due to a drop (kids). Battery seems to last a long time, I do like the USB charging option so I don't have to "lug" around additional chargers.

Good quality
They work great

Not
Does not work well in a construction area where other brands of radios and different frequencies are used. Manual is generic. Cannot program radios for privacy. Sound quality and clarity are great. Easy to use.
