National Service helped you grow up
Having been a National Serviceman 1957/59 felt that there were some very biased views re National Service. Personally I grew up, drill was no problem, I thoroughly enjoyed basic training. I played good quality rugby. I had two excellent pals all the way through from day one.Started in Devizes, finished in Nottingham.RAPC.

I wish I had known.
As a former National Serviceman I found thus book to be absorbing. It put into context for me the wider picture & influences that I had not appreciated at the time. It also gave me an insight into the circumstances in which many of my friends and contemporaries had to function in their diverse postings during our periods of service.

For myself an interesting account of national service although the whole thing relies on the individual. At the time I could not wait for 'demon' but now I wish I had signed on instead of rushing back to civvy street, it, in retrospect was a great time and I had nearly two wonderful years in Germany. I will never forget the kindness of the German people and this was only seven years after the war.
