OK...I didn't buy this for a fish tank. I bought it because I needed an easy option to clean out a kiddie pool. This is a larger, blow up variety so it holds a lot of water...a lot more than can be dumped and replaced easily. So, to keep it clear I use chlorine tabs, but it would still get debris, bugs and leaves, floating on the surface. An actual pool skimmer would be too big, but this net is perfect. The mesh is fine, so it catches even small things. With a little tap the net easily empties out. And, best of all, it has a telescoping handle so I don't need to bend down to use it. I know it's not the usage it was meant for exactly, but it works really well. I can only assume it would well for its original purpose, too.

The handle is very long and great for reaching down to the bottom of my 100 gallon outdoor pond. The thing I'm worried about is how flimsy the handle is, very skinny metal and if I'm scooping dead leaves and muck, doubt it's going to last long. I guess the price is okay but I'd rather pay a bit more and have it be more sturdy. The net is nice size and works well cleaning between rocks and plants.

Good quality net. I like the concept that its arm can be extended as needed; however, in practice it doesn't work as well as I hoped. The problem is the arm is just a simple set of retractable tubes (old-school telescopic antenna) - so it is not super strong, but more importantly, it allows the net to spin rather easily. When I try to pick something out of my pond, the arm often twists allowing the thing I am picking to fall free from the net. So this net is only good for grabbing light weight things if you are careful when using it.

They haven't rusted, and the netting is still standing up to my kitten trying to eat her way through it.
