ICESPIKE™ Serious Traction for Any Outdoor Activity! No Straps, Chains or Coils.

Winter ice and falling is one of the greatest hazards of ranch life. I have tried all the chains, straps and rubber strap gadgets and they all failed. I purchased these used my drill to attach them to my Muck boots and I'm here to tell you I can dance on ice with these! They work great! They stay attached and they grip on all surfaces! When I say they work on all surfaces that's also a bit of bad news - so take this warning seriously! Do not wear these in the house on the new hardwood floor, vinyl floor or even on the carpet or you will have a hot cook and a cold supper! As long as you stay outside, these are seriously the best solution for slick winter surfaces I have found. I totally recommend them!

A single pack was sufficient to outfit my boots and my husbands with a few screws left over (just in case we lose any). I used 3 per heel, and 4 per front-sole (installed near the perimeter). We live in Minnesota and walk the dog every night and have been marveling about how steady our footings feel since we added the spikes--they make a world of difference. I would note that we consider the spikes a permanent addition to our winter boots. We don't remove them, and they don't come out (not yet, anyway). This is important because the spikes will ruin floors. We remove them as soon as we're indoors, so they're NOT a solution for walking to the grocery store or anyplace you'll need to keep footwear on indoors. Something removable like Yaktrax is a better solution for that kind of use, though I find those to be a bit of a pain. If you're willing to spend the dough, a couple brands have developed boots with retractable spikes, which would be another option. I'm personally not yet willing to spend $300 on awesome high-tech boots, especially with affordable options like Icespikes. They seriously work great.

Item was exactly as described by seller. The spikes were easy to install. I did not want to have to wear any thing with straps while running on snow and Ice covered roads. I knew that was not going to work for me. After having ankle surgery a year ago I was really worried about stability on snow covered roads. These worked great my stride is stable and consistent the whole run. After researching my options online I decided this was the best one for me. I was not sorry.

Honestly, I bought these in the hopes that, like going to the bathroom in the restaurant to get the waiter to bring your food, I could get it to stop snowing this year. The "magical thinking" portion of my purchase was a sad disappointment, it snowed the day I got them and installed them. I blame the drunken polar vortex for that. I chose icespikes because I tend to have trouble with anything bulky on my feet, I have an even gait and prefer minimalist shoes, so the thought of strapping on a contraption to irritate my toes and bruise me on my long runs did not appeal. In that respect, icespikes is the clear winner - little screws that go into your treads, no straps, no adjusting, no "fitting". I chose icespikes over hardware store machine screws because I know I'll be on mixed pavement/ice/snow, and wanted the harder material. What's great: Improved confidence and traction. No more "slippery shuffle" where I hit a patch of ice and have to slow way down and shuffle until the ground improves. My gait was much more even and natural than without them, something that is extremely important for the distances I do. Running on clean pavement I did feel them, but in 5 miles of mixed surface running, I was none the worse for wear - no extra bruising, no limping or altered gait in any way, no discomfort even, I just noticed the difference. What's reality: On packed snow, they'll grab onto the compressed snow up to their thickness, then slide on the next layers of compressed snow. So yeah, I still had a slide or two in these, but that's to be expected. Also, the snow would get clogged between them (I didn't install them especially differently from the instructions/video, I think it was the freaky snow), which was uncomfortable but didn't last more than a few steps. I'm actually more excited to try them on solid ice, because I think they'll fare better than the slush/snow pack/snow fluff/frozen snirt/pavement I ran on. They're a vast improvement over nothing at all, and given how little they interfere with my activity, that makes them awesome. Note on installation - they may not "damage" the shoe you install them on, but they leave behind holes where the spikes were screwed in to the sole. That's just what happens. So you are permanently altering the footwear you choose to install them on, though in my opinion not in a meaningful way. Also, there is no installing these on actual minimalist footwear - you need a sole that is thicker than that. I installed them on my Saucony Kinvara 4's with absolutely no issues at all, but I wouldn't even think of it for my New Balance Minimus Trail shoes, the sole just isn't thick enough. Note on the tool - it's a standard hex driver, I'm not sure which size but it doesn't seem special. If you've got a set of hex drivers, skip the "set" with the tool, and just buy the spikes (check the company's website, there's also decent sales they have there that aren't here on amazon). Otherwise, you'll have a nifty two size hex driver when you're done (tug on the metal and it comes out of the handle, it's reversible) For clarification - I'm a long time runner who likes to train for spring marathons in the winter. I will likely only install these on my "last fall's cushy shoes" to get me through the worst of the January/February long runs outside so I don't die of Treadmill Induced Boredom. I think they'd do fine for other applications, but I don't need them for anything else. I don't plan on using the shoes after I remove these in the Spring because they'll have too many miles on them anyway. I don't mud run either. I'm please with my purchase, and will buy replacements from them when needed.

Ive used spiked running and hiking footwear for years and cant urge you enough to try it if you deal with ice on the ground. These things enable you to avoid falling on your ass! Ice is not a thing any more... you can safely run, walk the dog, load the truck or whatever without even thinking about ice. Do it! My wife was resistant, finally tried some trail runners I studded and immediately texted me "Game Changer!!!" I used to worry she would hurt herself walking the dog in the dark. Now she runs with him in the winter!

I have tried several other "slip on" traction devices and nothing holds a candle to these spikes. Be careful on hard tile floors.

These are great We get a lot of snow and prevents any slipping Handy tool included so you can take them out if you want

I deliver newpapers in the morning, and have slipped due to icy conditions. Over the years I've tried every brand and weight of crampons (strap on ice cleats) and none of them hold up long to the mileage I put in during delivery. I usually get less than a week of use before they break. I've then tried a variety of studs that screw into the bottoms of he soles of my boots. They don't last long due to wear down from the patches of pavement and concrete I have to cross. So I frequently have to remove worn studs, and replace them. These Icespikes still suffer from wear down, but last longer than any other stud/cleats I've tried so far. I'll be buying more.

Game changer!! So easy to 'install' (I'm 63 yr old woman and had zero problems) and boy, do they work. I was purposely walking across ice, just because I knew I could!!
