Not worth the paper it’s written on
To begin with, this collection of writing examples isn't even a book. It consists of essays downloaded from the internet, cobbled together and printed. The layout is rather untidy, and occasionally a whole page contains only two or three words. Not surprisingly, the volume is unnecessary bulky and cumbersome. The only additional information accompanying each example is its word count. There are no evaluator’s comments, no notes, no band score. This would be tolerable if all the examples were produced by native speakers or at least carefully scrutinised and vetted. On the contrary, quality is inconsistent. While some are rather good, some are littered with howling mistakes such no subject-verb agreement, uncountable nouns treated as countable, and wrong tenses such as “forests that are no longer exist”. The style of some passages ranges from toe-curling to amusing, from embarrassing to hilarious: sport is an “efficiently recreational activity”, scientists analyse information from “space robes”, peer pressure means that teenagers are “afraid of boycott and abomination”. Here and there, the reader stumbles upon lines which simply make no sense whatsoever: “People insist on the most excellent students more deserve”.The statement that the book is written by an experienced native teacher for the USA is totally misleading. Internal evidence and some recurring references to Vietnamese culture suggest that this guide is merely an anthology of students’ essays touted as ‘model’ pieces. The blurb shouts about “Score 8.0+” but the overall level is nowhere near. Don't buy.

The level of English in this book is very, very, very poor. The essays clearly were not written by a native speaker.

This book is well written.
Awesome Ielts resource!I have to say that this is a great bookset on the topic of IELTS writing. This book is really an excellent reference source for students who want to learn on how to write an essay excellently to gain an 8.0+. The author Rachel Mitchell has provided over 450 model essays inside which are very intensive, informative and helpful for IELTS preparation.Overall, this book is worth money and a must read for all students.

not recommended
It has a lot of typos. When you're trying to learn for a language exam, seeing so many mistakes is confusing and unhelpful. The language used is also too simple and sometimes even silly. It doesn't feel serious or appropriate for studying for a big exam like the IELTS. Lastly, the book has misleading information.

Super
Super. I found very good explanations in this book. This will help me consolidate my knowledge. Another advantage is that the book contains samples and, of course, it was easier for me as a reader to assimilate information.

Save your money
I returned this book because it was very poorly edited. I found typographic errors (for example, "suite" instead of "suit") in the first two essays. There was zero explanation of what process is required to write a good essay. There were only sample essays and an introduction where the author sings her own praises. Save your money.
