Happy Homemade: Sew Chic: 20 Simple Everyday Designs Paperback – 24 Sept. 2013

I'm fairly new to sewing and have made the shorts, two of the tunics and a shirt from the book - most just take an 2-3 hours to complete. The patterns are easy to follow, especially for beginners, as they aren't tailored.I'm surprised to read that many think the patterns are too floaty or too small and not made forWestern women. I'm a very tall size 10 and have no issues in length and width. I even find thebust measurements very generous!I'm not a plus size but not sure why some people think that when you are a bigger size, you have to wear skin tight clothes... If you think something is too floaty, just go a size down (I have made a size 8 of many of the projects and they fit perfectly, without being snug).

A set of simple, chic designs that are all somewhat timeless and very wearable. They are all within my intermediate skils and I'm thinking that the final effect/polish will rely on the perfect choice of material and finishing touches. The largest size is UK 16 so I'll have to be careful with checking measurements and possibly enlarging some patterns but they are very straightforward designs and I cannot see any difficulty.

I haven't done any proyect yet, but the book looks good.

Excellent book with wonderful patterns. The instructions are clear, and photos excellent. It covers a range of skill levels, so there are options for a range of sewers. I've recommended it to friends.

this is so stylish and has really clear instructions which is not always the case in books of this type.

Great book, bought as used but could of easily been new. Patterns appeared to not of been used at all. Fast delivery arrived well before expected delivery date, will definately use again, thank you.

Lovely designs. Largest sizes in a book: bust 40”, hips 43”, quite generous and unusual for Yoshiko books.

making the patterns was a headache but they are beautiful pictures havent made anything yet. wouldnt buy another of her books though simply for the issue of the pattern making

J'aimais bien tous les modèles. Ils sont d'apparence facile et coquettes et bien facile à porter. On peut bien s'inspirer du stylisme aussi. Attention bien se mesurer. Ici on taille petit. La plus grande taille manque de quelques centimetres. Ceci est important parce que le patron de base est parfois multitaille (donc la plus grande taille sera trop petite). On se base aussi sur 1m60 comme hauteur de corps. Ca pourrait donner des ourlets très haut! Instructions magnifiques et très bien dessinées. Super.

Ms.Tsukiori presents an excellent set of designs for beginning/intermediate sewists or anyone who enjoys simple pattern lines and doesn't want to pay $20 per pattern. Nothing difficult here, just interesting patterns for all ages when made in fabrics and worn in a manner comfortable to you. I'm a many-years AARP member and don't want to look like I'm pretending to be 30 again but I'd happily make and wear most styles in this book. I leave off frills mostly because I'm not a frilly person but at 5'3", & a curvy 130lbs the patterns work as well for me in size and style as do American patterns, at considerably less cost. Do be aware that plus-sizes can't make these patterns without extensive drafting; if you're near to plus-sized you may need to draft up from the largest size presented herein.To use the patterns I dry-iron the pieces under a cloth to flatten them and use  Bee Paper White Sketch and Trace Roll, 24-Inch by 20-Yards  for tracing. This is not as hard as it might seem if this is your first experience with multiply-printed patterns: these patterns are far easier to trace than are those from Burda!As a side note, I was a professional technical writer for many decades and am deeply impressed with the quality of the book itself, aside from the quality of the designs. Mutsuko Sukegawa writes beautifully minimal instructions, the illustrations are some of the best I've ever seen, and the translations are excellent. The patterns are printed on heavy, good-quality paper and it's quite easy to follow individual pattern lines. In every way an outstanding publication!
