Q: is the inner case all glass or is the bottom steel? want to be sure no steel touching water.

The base is steel or at least metal which I prefer to plastic or other composite. My only con about this kettle is that the keep warm feature is literally that. The water is not kept at the boiling point, it is just warm, not hot enough for tea or coffee, I always have to re-boil the water.

Q: Does the water stay warm?

Dear customer, Yes, the water temperature will remain at 149-185°F with an indicator light on the bottom button when the keep warm mode is turned on. Very convenient for me to use at night .

Q: Does plastic touch the boiling water?

Yes, it absolutely does, and there is a plastic/chemical odor that did not diminish in the three weeks we used ours. While the kettle itself is glass, the entire lid, including the pour strainer, is white plastic, except for a thin disc of metal covering part of the underside. The steam and splashing liquid water contacts the plastic parts of the lid when boiling, then again when pouring, and the smell is unpleasant, reminiscent of chlorine bleach residue. The effects can be somewhat minimized by leaving the lid up while boiling, but then the kettle does not shut off when the water boils--problematic.
