documented CP1500 defect
The printer was working fine until it reached a documented CP1500 defect, which can happen for no reason. I don’t recommend buying.

I recommend this printer!
This is a very good printer for printing photos! Many years ago I used an older model - Canon Selphy CP800 and even then I felt how convenient the Selphy series of printers is. Now I have purchased the CP1500 and the Selphy series has become even better, because now you don’t even need a computer to print photos, now you can print photos directly from your mobile phone. For your information - please note that the printer requires special paper. This printer does not have liquid or powders ink, which is very good if you have children in your home, special film cartridges are sold for this printer. I recommend this printer to anyone who needs the ability to quickly and easily print high-quality photos!

I picked this up used on Amazon Warehouse... or whatever it's called this week... for about £30 less than the new price, which was in itself about £20 cheaper than normal for Black Friday. So that was pretty good. Especially as it was in mint condition when it arrived. As the printer doesn't come with paper or ink cartridges [even if purchased new] I ordered some of those as well. At around 30 quid for just over 100 sheets, it works out around 30p. a print, more or less. Which I thought was a bit steep.... until I actually made a few prints and... Wow!—this really is impressive. For anyone like me who's previously wrestled with a moody inkjet printer, printing on glossy photo paper and wasting more ink and paper than you produce prints, this is a fantastic upgrade. OK, the prints aren't the biggest. The largest size is postcard sized, but... the print quality is fantastic. They are indistinguishable from a real photograph and they also print really quickly as well. I did end up wasting a couple of sheets of paper at the start, as I chose "fill entire paper" in my print dialogue at first, which resulted in really unpredictable cropping. Once I changed my print settings to "print entire image" instead everything worked as expected. There is actually a dedicated app for printing which the manual [and printer during setup] strongly encourages you to download and use. But having experienced Canon's atrociously bad software design with previous cameras and printers I've owned [Hello!—the 1990s called. They want their interface back] I decided I'd forego the dubious pleasure of wrestling with another of Canon's half-arsed attempts at writing software and just "go native" instead. So I'm printing directly from MacOS using the system print dialogue, with the printer connected to my WiFi network. This works absolutely fine and is just as convenient as sending to my other everyday printer. The only thing I don't like about it is the cringeworthy "Selphy" name. As with the much maligned "Selfie Stick" this is a device which can also be put to good use by the non-narcissits amongst us.

The biggest issue is that the photo paper has to be purchased separately, which feels inconvenient and expensive compared to other brands that provide a more complete package.

The simplicity and clean approach to photography is fantastic. No messy inks, no blur, just a fantastic quality photo. Now... this is the happy ending, as we start our tale backwards. At the beginning, be ready as this can be only described as an Epic battle full of evil curses, cosmic magic and plenty of fairy dust... perhaps enough to make you sneeze knives and 'trollify' the self until the very end. The Iron fist of rule Canon has amazing hardware! But horrible software... this is a well known fact among IT Warlocks and Witches. This beast, is no exception. For the common mortals in this world, the only option of use is by directly connecting to the printer hotspot by sacrificing their own internet access and using the canon cursed app. Simply disconnect from the Wifi and find the Canon printer hotspot, connect using the given password and use the app and the QR code to do the rest. IT Witches and Warlocks of might, the path of light through windows in the very fabric of the world. There are alternative interfaces allowed by the printer, that involve connecting the printer to the WiFi in hope to provide services to a network, but... the apps just shatter at this point. The magic that connects the app to the printer fails to happen unless the printer provides a QR code that only happens IF the printer is in hotspot behaviour. A conundrum worthy of Kong Qiu himself. To prevail, Windows is your ally. Alas, for the sacred most varied Gods, DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL CANON DRIVERS!!! Use windows to find the printer and let it install it's own drivers. That is not a can of worms, that is a pit of Cobras. Once the ritual is complete, photo printing spell can be cast from any windows app that can sustain access to the printer pools. If windows cannot find the printer, either one of 2; The printer is disconnected from the Wifi (again) or one needs to go straight to the door. Open the log from your router management and search for the last added MAC given IP. Use this IP to directly point windows IPP service to it. It will work. For as long as you don't stary from the path of light , your photos will prevail. As a note of warning. The printer arrives naked. You shall provide all the necessary paper and solid ink cartridges. The best bundle does bring enough material for 108 photos. The quality is fantastic, well worth the fight.
