A Realistic View of Afghanistan Today
I purchased this book on the recommendation of my son, a U.S. Navy officer recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan, as a truthful, realistic view of life in that war-torn country. It especially details the plight of women trying to exist under such crushing circumstances. Women seek education, while men want to keep them ignorant, and thus more controllable. Husbands go off to fight for "God, Country, and the Koran", frequently never to return, leaving their wives and children to cope in a hostile environment. I recommend this book, not for fun reading, which it isn't, but to gain an understanding of the upheavals that result from the clash of modern and tribal societies, and the deadly result of the use of modern weapons in tribal conflicts.

Heartbreaking
Heartbreaking read about a woman and her family's struggles in the ever-war-torn Afghanistan. What she went through, having to constantly flee one village after another, suffering extreme poverty and oppression, reminds me of how fortunate many of us in the Western world are. A painful but important book.

A Woman Who is a Remarkable Survivor of Afghanistan's Many Wars
I would like for Siba Shakib to write a sequel to her Afghanistan, Where God Only Comes to Weep and hear an update on the family that went through so many horror's from the Russians, Taliban, Pakistan, Iran, etc. The mother is a survivor of the worst condition's that I cannot imagine. I pray that she is having a better life with the American's being around. Nancy Coble

Good
While I enjoyed the book, the authors style of writing just got to me. I found it annoying. I didn't gain any new information on the struggle that Afghanistan women faced/face but it does give you an appreciation that we live in the USA.

Like a bad novel
While I have no doubt whatsoever that everything written happened here and in many other places, I don't like books ( biographies or memoirs written by someone else ) that are like novels or who write entire sentences with dialogue about events from years ago, line by line. Nobody can remember every sentence of an argument they may have had with their husband 8 years ago and reguritate it to you, they may be able to tell you the general story, but how are they going to remember line by line what each said ??? That is what this book is like, it reads like a novel.
