An extremely entertaining read! Michael D. Salzman has written Part 1 of pretty much the de facto guide on Atari 2600 arcade ports that you will ever read! Filled with interesting info on 33 of the greatest games of the era. Not just simple descriptions of the games, but Michael goes into depth on the history, design, and strategy of each title. The book deserves a place in the library of any gamer who appreciates the classic gaming era, and a must-have for Atari aficionados! There is a lot of meat on the bones of this book, you won't be disappointed with a purchase! As a "hardcore" modern and classic gamer, arcade enthusiast, Atari fanboy, and 80s child, I highly recommend it and am happily waiting for Vol. 2!

Cool, informative, entertaining little book, obviously written by somebody who loves these games as much as I do. Good selection of games. I learned some new things about games I was already familiar with and picked up a few ideas of games to try. It does appear to be self-published, so probably didn't have a professional editor, but there were a lot of noticeable grammatical mistakes and clearly wrong words (but that spell check wouldn't have caught) that were a bit distracting. It probably could have used a final read-through by someone who's strong in that area. But I really enjoyed the book and do recommend it. It says it's Volume 1 -- if there's a Volume 2 in the future, I'd absolutely buy it.

Michael D Salzman's 'The Unauthorized Atari 2600 Arcade Companion' was a breath of fresh air in an overall stale and repetitive reviewing atmosphere. Micahel truly seems to love what he does! You can tell the passion on each page was thoughtfully crafted and overall a joy to read the moment you pick it up and read 'Press Reset.' To include, the reviews were not of an individual who looked underneath other players either taking a trip down memory lane or seeing these items for the first time. This seemed more akin to an avid gaming or collector sharing knowledge to individuals for the sole purpose of excitement, wonder, and to show a generation of gamers and non-gamers alike what it was like to be in that time.My personal favorite review was from "Spy Hunter - 1984, SEGA" The description really grabbed me like the later Spy Hunter PlayStation title, going into very sound details of strategy, explanation, and even the two controller requirement really got to me.In short, whether you are a seasoned gaming veteran or just someone who wants to experience the history of video games from another point of view. This book definitely is for you. Also, the price point is excellent!

"The Unauthorized Atari 2600 Arcade Companion Volume 1: 33 Of Your Favorite Arcade Games Ported To The Atari 2600" is a very well written book with a lot of details of 33 (selected) arcade game ported titles. Some stuff I didn't even know about. Highly recommended!! Can't wait until Volume 2 is released to see what's next!

Super fun book, even if you just have the Atari Flashback 8 gold and never played a real 2600, like me. :-)

Good introduction to Atari ports, some favourites missing, hope they’re in a future volume.

Nice and fun to read

Preview of the book shows color pictures. They are black and white in the book. Gives a nice summary of several games but little that can't be found in other books. For $9.99, a decent buy but I'm returning mine as it wasn't as advertised.
