A Nice Collection But Comes Up Short
These tracks are from Andy's Cadence years. The 2 CD set includes all of his charting singles between 1956 and 1962. The rest of the tracks come from various albums released during this same period of time. There are no selections from "Andy Williams Sings Steve Allen", "Andy Williams Sings Rodgers and Hammerstein" or "To You Sweetheart, Aloha". The "Under Paris Skies" album only contributes two songs. You get the version of Lonely Street that was on the stereo album with just one voice. The 45 rpm single had Andy singing double track harmony and that version is also included.Lots of songs for a nice price, so what more could you want? The biggest issue I have is that all of the albums that are represented on the collection were issued in stereo and sixteen of these tracks are in monaural sound. If you have purchased Jasmine albums in the past, you will know that they do not believe in organizing the tracks in any sort of logical order. You can't hear one complete album or listen to the songs in the order they were released. If you really want that sort of organization, then you have to burn your own CD and arrange the tracks the way you like. The booklet, like others from Jasmine, is very sparse. You get the names of the songs and a little history about Andy and that is all. There is no recording information as to dates or even which song came from which album. It is left to the buyer to do their own research. It would have taken only a small effort for Jasmine to have included this information. Jasmine does tend to give the buyer good value, but they come up short in putting together a really 5 star package.

I LIKE THIS KIND OF VOICE
Although the tracklist doesn't show recording dates, it's possible to deduce that this compilation spans the six-year period from 1956 to 1961. Throughout that period Andy was recording for the Cadence label, and had a string of hits which established his reputation on both sides of the Atlantic. Many of these have become classics which remain closely associated with him, in particular "The Hawaiian Wedding Song".Andy Williams was blessed with a beautiful voice, which caresses the lyric and is a delight to the ear. These recordings were directed by Archie Bleyer, who provided superb accompaniments throughout. There are 57 songs spread across these two CDs, and every one is a winner. It's such happy music that you'll find your smiling as you listen, or even joining in.This release virtually coincides with one from GVC entitled "Butterfly" which is concentrated on the same period. As a result, over 40 of the tracks are duplicated, and it may be useful to the prospective purchaser to list the stand-alone tracks on this set, which are as follows:Suddenly There's a Valley; Sail Along Silv'ry Moon; He; Christmas is a Feeling in Your Heart; You Don't Know What Love is; The Bilbao Song; Look for the Silver Lining; Say it Isn't so; I'm so All Alone; Lonely Street (single voice version; Don't Go to Strangers; Mam'selle; Under Paris Skies; Our Lady of Fatima; Sweet Leilani; How Wonderful to Know.

The Very Best of Andy Williams: The Cadence Years
Another truly outstanding collection of '50s Gold', this time from Andy Williams who charted15 hits on the Billboard and Cashbox charts between 1956 and 1961. Those hits are all here as well as numerous album selections and some of the best B sides. Andy's original Cadence Lp collections TWO TIME WINNERS CLP 25026, LONELY STREET CLP 25030, THE VILLAGE OF SAINT BERNADETTE CLP 25038, MILLION SELLER SONGS CLP 25061 are basically here in their entirety. Songs such as "Sail Along Silvery Moon" and "Blue Hawaii" harken back to the Billy Vaughn original 50s hit renditions with the twin sax sound featured. Other 50s 'two time winners' such as Connie Francis' My Happiness and Tommy Edwards 'It's All in the Game' keep some aspects of those hit recordings but definitely have Andy's stamp. This to me is the very best of Andy Williams with everything from 'pop rock' to 'old standards', 'Hawaiian songs' to 'pop country'.This is the best introduction to Andy Williams, one of America's ICONS. Thanks to Jasmine and the programming/production of Robert Nickora we have another fantastic 2 CD set at a reasonable price with great sound and liner notes.
