Honest take on this.
I have had this for almost a year. I`ll try and be brief but good. Draw backs. Does not detect anything that does not hot the infra red/lidar beam head on. So If your dog has a accident your worst nightmares will come true. I had bought a rumba a few weeks earlier and loved how it cleaned but. So when I saw this mopped and vacuumed I had to try it. Not 2 days in was in the basement when I got a notice the robot stopped. As I went upstairs my nose was filled with the most horrific smell you can imagine. My eyes watered my stomach turned and I wanted to yarf all over the stairs up to the kitchen. OMG the horror. The poor robot had dragged it entirely around the kitchen island more than 4 times. It had almost completely covered 200 square feet with dog crap. Where do I start. so went and got the mop and bucket and began mopping the kitchen. I got the robot flipped it over and just did not now what to do with myself. This thing is $1000 and I could not throw it out. So got a face mask. "Thanks Covid" and gloves and began deep cleaning the entire thing. Lucky for me I bought a spares kit when I ordered it and I needed it already. Tossed the pads, roller, filter and then stripped the robot down and cleaned every single piece with bleach and disinfectant. The fortunate thing is it stopped on the way back to the base station to was the pads. Anyway since that day I learned to start the robot at midnight when the animals are asleep and as are the family. If you leave it on the floor its going to want to suck it up. Be it socks, laces, cords you name it you need to make sure it's not on the floor when the robots on. Someone said that the robot uses a lot of water. I have found if you use freo mode all the time it will. It will wash and wash all the time. And probably do 800 square feet and need water and waste emptying. So if you want to use freo mode make sure its when your able to have someone empty and fill the clean and dirty buckets. Otherwise I set it to mop the entry way and kitchen every night and it does them both 3-4 times a week before needing refill and draining. The App is always growing and changing. Which is good. Very intuitive. Cleaning ability? Awesome. The App you can change the suction speed of the vacuum. You can change the downforce pressure of the mop and you can adjust how wet the mop is when in use. I empty the dust bin once a week. Maybe twice in the few weeks the animals shed the seasonal coats. The Soap i have not yet replaced in 8 months. Thing seems to dilute slowly. Robot needs me to clean it once a month. It gets hair in the wheel between the pads and on the ends of the brush hair builds up and needs clearing. My biggest complaint is the lidar sensor. What a dumb place to have no lip on it. When you lift the dust container out particles spill out on to the top of the plastic and its very static like and the dust just floats on top of the plastic and with the lidar spinning it attracts the dust and sucks it into the spinning cover. This got stuck on mine a few times and I had to strip it to clean it or I would have to ship it back to them. I see on the new one no changes have been made so I decided to cancel it for now. A lip needs to be added to make it less likely to pull in dust. But it's well over 200hrs of work. Paid for itself. I love coming into a clean home. Thank you.

Disappointing Performance and Design Flaws
I recently purchased the Narwal robot vacuum with high hopes for a convenient and efficient cleaning solution, but unfortunately, my experience has left me thoroughly dissatisfied. Here's a breakdown of my disappointments: 1. Inadequate Suction: The vacuum's suction power falls far short of expectations. It struggles to pick up dirt effectively, leaving me with the constant feeling that my floors are not as clean as they should be. 2. Sluggish Operation: One of the most frustrating aspects of the Narwal robot vacuum is its slow cleaning process. It takes an exorbitant amount of time to navigate through the entire house, making the cleaning cycle inconveniently long. 3. Unreliable App Functionality: The accompanying app is another letdown. The robot frequently forgets the layout of the rooms, making it unreliable when it comes to executing the tasks I've programmed. Additionally, it often fails to return to its charging station as intended, creating unnecessary inconvenience. 4. Brush Design Flaw: The spinning brush, instead of aiding in the cleaning process, seems to exacerbate the problem. It has a tendency to flick dirt away, rendering the vacuum's suction less effective. This flaw in design significantly hampers the overall cleaning performance. I find myself constantly frustrated with its performance, and it falls short of the expectations set by other robotic vacuums on the market. I wish I had the option to return the Narwal robot vacuum - the numerous issues I've encountered make it a regrettable purchase. In conclusion, if you're considering a robot vacuum for your home, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for a more reliable and effective option. The Narwal has left me disappointed on multiple fronts, and I cannot recommend it based on my experience.

Hi, just been reading some other reviews on Amazon and on other websites, and I don’t understand some people complaining about this robot. I live with my wife my 19yr son and two short hair cats and one long haired chihuahua in a four and a half apartment. I don’t expect any robot at any price point to be able to be perfect. I also have a iRobot j9+ self emptying vac that CAN move around objects but I still pick up all the cat toys and dog toys, I pick up anything I can to make the robot work at its best. If people think they can just leave anything and everything on the ground, well they are wrong. The Narwal works great if you just take 10 minutes to tidy up your place. I live in an apartment that has 5 rooms, just average size nothing huge at all. One has laminate floor, one has wood herringbone floor, the bathroom has linoleum on the floor and the two bedrooms have 3inch wood planks. In the hall that connects all these rooms is covered in the usual landlord approved grey industrial carpet. The Narwal is better at mapping with the laser lidar, it’s smoother going around the apartment, quieter, does NOT bang into anything, it slows up just before and kisses the wall and turns around and keeps on going. My iRobot j9+ has a little better suction but is louder and really bangs into into stuff. I also make sure that I keep the robots in good working order. Every third or fourth run I empty the dust bins on both, wipe down the robots with just a slightly moist micro fibre cloth. I take out the rollers and pull the hair off the ends and and wipe down the sensors, lastly I blow them clean with a rechargeable air gun. I get the Narwal to vacuum first then mop the floors in all my rooms. Then I take out the dirty water container to see how dirty the water is, and I did not think my floors were that dirty. I run the iRobot every second day on just the carpet, and the dust bin is full of cat and dog hair and grey dust, it’s crazy. So please don’t think you can just set them up and forget about them. I hope this helps and makes sense, all these robots are good, you just have to do some upkeep. Thanks

What I love: - The vacuum dust bin does not *require* a dust collection bag. The bag is optional. I'm cheap and I do not use a dust bin bag. - The dust bin can be washed out occasionally. I empty the dust bin after each use or at least every other use. When it needs it, I wash the bin and let it dry thoroughly! DO NOT wash the filter. I bang the dust off the filter to clean it and I have replaced the filter once in six months. - The water tank holds enough to mop the whole house (approx. 1000 sq ft). The kitchen and dining area gets vacuumed and mopped daily - now that never happened before Narwal arrived! Rooms with less traffic are cleaned bi-weekly. I discard dirty water after each mopping. I rinse the dirty water collection tank, fill the clean water tank and it's ready to go again. Simple and easy to do. - While I DO use the cleaning solution that came with the machine, it is not *required* for the machine to function. That was important to me and I contacted the manufacturer to be sure of that before my purchase. I have had the machine for six months and still have not used all the cleaning solution so I'm impressed. - Once the house is mapped, I can direct the machine to clean any room I please - any time I please by selecting the room, the function (vacuum and/or mop) all from my iPhone. That is luxury! - especially because I can do this from work on afternoon coffee break or while I reclining in my easy chair at the end of the day! - The cleaning tray, where the mops are washed and dried automatically, removes from the dock for a good rinse. Bi-monthly, I remove the water tanks and the vacuum robot before lifting the docking station up on a chair or counter so I can give everything a good wipe. That is the least I can do for a machine that has changed my life in such a positive way!! Besides, it was expensive and I want it to last and long, long time! Cons: It is pricey. I would like to have purchased the top-of-the-line models but the budget did not allow for it. Even at that price, if the machine died tomorrow, I would replace it immediately. Note: My daughter owns a Narwal vac with a *conical brush* which is a dream for pet owners!

I bought this robot as I wanted the combo of vacuum and mopping. The best feature of the robot is definitely the mopping which works great. The support team was very helpful - I have a 3 story house and could not figure out how to do it via the app. They sent me an email with very detail explanation and images and now I can map it property. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: 1. The mop is by far the best in market - I have both hardwood and tiles and it works well on both. 2. Very quiet - I can actually work from home and it won’t be noticeable on my meetings 3. The new addition of multi mapping allow you now to have the robot clean your entire house without moving the base. It took me some time to learn it for mopping - you need to define an area before starting the mopping - Reason is that it require to clean the pads after certain amount of time. Once I learned it - it’s quite easy - luckily my house is small. 4. Support team - They were able to answer my issue with the mapping very quickly and with all the detailed images. Cons: mostly small issues and can be easily be fixed with another firmware update. 1. App requires some improvement in my opinion - it was not clear on the instructions on how to create multi maps and only with the help of support I managed to find it. Also it was not clear the way of changing the dedicate area 2. Robot failed to bypass small obstacles - for instance I have a coffee table with base legs which are only 1 inch tall and the robot just like to play there and hover it all the time . I believe that with a small update on the sensors this can be easily fix .

***UPDATE: A representative from Narwhal contacted me immediately. They inquired about the error and promptly sent a new Narwhal vaccum after I returned the defective one as we were still under the warranty period. We've had the new one for a week now and so far so good. Will update if I come across any other issues. I'm incredibly satisfied with how effectively they've resolved my issue and their customer service. This is unbelievable! We got the Narwhal after comparing it with the many different robot vaccums available. It seemed to be one of the best performing ones and has a mopping feature included. It was working well and helped with pet hair. Unfortunately, after only a month the roller brush is causing issue! The Narwhal keeps saying that the roller brush is entangled even though it has been cleaned thoroughly! Now the vaccum won't work as the error message keeps coming up! For the price of this vaccum this should not happen! I would not waste my money on such an expensive vaccum for it to no longer work a month later! Extremely disappointed!!
