This book by Dr. Dale Bredesen outlines a science-backed protocol to rebalance 36 metabolic factors and prevent/reverse cognitive decline in Alzheimer's and dementia. Review: Fascinating - A fascinating book, it gives sufficient information for a sympathetic doctor to use the protocol but to do it properly most people already experiencing cognitive impairment would need a lot of support and to do the protocol to the letter in conjunction with Dr Bredesen's organisation could start to get costly - though ultimately cheaper than the care required for someone with Alzheimer's. Hopefully this treatment can be proven and become routine - the main downside appears to be trying to put significant lifestyle changes in place for someone who is probably older, set in their ways and possibly confused. The book also suggests putting the protocol in place to prevent Alzheimer's particularly if you are at high risk, again to do it properly would require support of a medical professional but there are steps anyone can take now to help minimise risk. It's an easy read, mostly easy to understand by the layman - he does suggest skipping some of the more detailed medical stuff if you're not interested in that. Review: "No one should ever die from Alzheimer's" - This is a very readable book about an extraordinarily complex subject. Dr Daly Bredesen has, through very thorough research as a scientist and since then a Medical doctor, discovered the causes of Alzheimer's, the different types of Alzheimer's, and why some people are far more likely to succumb to the disease than others. Following the thorough research he has identified 36 different treatments that actually stop and even reverse the disease. The treatment will depend on which type of Alzheimer's the sufferer has. In his book Dr Bredesen provides case histories af patients who have had to give up successful and professional careers because of the illness, but after treatment have resumed their careers. Sadly the complexity means it would be very difficult for a non medical person to easily carry out the tests and necessary procedures to achieve what Dr Bredesen. But what is really tragic is that despite his successes his work is not better know. In the UK no one I have spoken to has heard of his work - and of course all the drug companies research is based on finding a quick fix one off pill. However he does provide a number of summaries in appendices which attempts to provide a simplified approach to diet and some other ways to at least reduce the likelihood of suffering the disease. Thoroughly recommended without restraint!

Worth a read
It offers good advice, but the regime it suggests and the doctor participation could only available privately, not on NHS, at massive cost. Even then, sticking to the regime is nigh-on impossible. But a very good read. I have increased some of my supplements accordingly, seeing my Mum deteriorating and fearing for my own health future. It also highlight some of the current wowfully inadequate "best practise" that is available today. Well worth a read. Would you stick to the regime - doubt it.

This book changes everything we thought we knew about Alzheimers
An absolutely incredible book, De Bredesen shares his extensive gound breaking research into the causes and cure for over 95% of Alzhiemers disease. He has excamples of people he has treated, provides the knowledge behind what is going on in our brains 20 plus years before any symptoms and once symptoms have started, he has identified there are 3 quite separate types of Alzheimers, the causes and treatments varying although they can overlap, but best of all he provides an easy to use check list of where your brain is at the moment, (Cognoscopy), which shows where you have issues, then he gives details of his ReCODE - reverese cognitive decline - programme, which is personalised to you the reader. It can include diet, vitamins and exercise, but not like a lose-weight type diet, a diet somewhat like keto. And it all makes sense. If you are Apoe4, or a family member is, I would highly recommend this book, it could save you from Alzheimers!

ReCODE offers to many millions of sufferers and their loved ones. I remain convinced that Dr Bredesen's 21st ...
I think in years to come people will look back on this book as pivotal in turning the tide against Alzheimer's. As well as documenting practical approaches to reversing Alzheimer's (and in so doing give hope to the millions who are already afflicted or who are genetically predisposed to the disease) Dr Bredesen explains how underlying physiological pathways converge to increase the risk of getting the disease. Dr Bredesen intersperses his narrative with testimonials of patients who have successfully reversed this truly awful soul-destroying disease. It is evident that Dr Bredesen has faced huge obstacles in extending the reach of his programme to reverse Alzheimer's however he has been resolute in his determination to conduct further trials and to spread the message of hope that his programme, ReCODE offers to many millions of sufferers and their loved ones. I remain convinced that Dr Bredesen's 21st Century 'programmatic' medical approach will ultimately gain world-wide acceptance not just for Alzheimer's but for other modern chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. I'd like to say thank you to Dr Bredesen and his team for their research over the past three decades because for people like me who face the horrific prospect of Alzheimer's I now have hope and a means to avoid it and live a healthier lifestyle as I age.

Dr Bredesen has researched Alzheimer’s for 30 years and has succeeded in unraveling this disease. He can prevent it and in most cases reverse its associated decline. (He has already helped about 200 people.) His discoveries represent a paradigm shift regarding this disease. First, here is the current view of Alzheimer’s: -it is a single disease caused by the accumulation of plaques made of amyloid-beta -to treat it find a way of stopping the plaques from forming or remove them once they have formed -most drugs developed with this view have succeeded in stopping or removing plaques but the patients either got no better or got worse. Here is what Alzheimer’s really is: -it results when the brain responds to various events by downsizing -there are 3 types of Alzheimer’s and each is a protective response to different triggers (or a combination of triggers): a) inflammation caused by too much sugar, infections or other causes b) low levels of synapse supporting nutrients, hormones and other molecules c) toxic exposure such as metals or bio-toxins -usually when the brain responds to these triggers it goes on functioning normally -the problem comes when these triggers are chronic, multiple, unrelenting and intense -then the process goes haywire and too many of these triggers start the process of brain cells dying The solution then is to: a) identify which triggers are present b) remove the contributors c) remove the amyloid-beta d) rebuild the lost synapses. These triggers (or factors) are about 36 in number so identifying which are present involves doing tests for each. These tests measure a specific condition in the body. Each test must be in a certain range otherwise it adds to the triggers. i.e. for each item that is out of range it contributes to Alzheimer’s. Once the out of range values are identified, changes are made to bring them all to the optimal value. (The optimal value is not just what is considered ‘normal’ but what is best for reversing the Alzheimer’s.) As more and more of these items are corrected, a certain threshold is reached and the person starts to improve. It is like having 36 holes in your roof that are causing a flood and realizing it is not enough to fix one hole, most of the holes need to be fixed to stop the flood. It’s similar with the brain: once the ‘holes’ are found, each is fixed until enough of them are stopped to get to a point where the death of brain cells has been reduced and compensated by the growth of new ones. With this background in place the major part of the book explains each trigger/factor, how to test for them and how to correct those that are out of range. Throughout the book there are stories of some of those who were helped. Many other books are available about Alzheimer’s but they focus on only a few of the 36 factors. For people who have only a few factors out of range, fixing those will help. However, this will not help those who have different factors which are causing their Alzheimer’s. Dr Bredesen’s program is the only one that is comprehensive enough to deal with all possible triggers. Dr. Bredesen has trained over 450 others in this program so if you or a loved one has Alzheimer’s or is showing signs of cognitive decline, you should be able to find someone who can help. (I emailed him and am waiting to find out if there is anyone in Canada.)

An amazing book recommended to everyone interested in how to prevent AD. The book is very easy to follow, it's well structured and full of valuable information that you can implement in your daily life starting from today. Although some parts of the book are sort-of "US" relevant only (e.g. the names/types of blood tests, or the units used for various tests - conversion to EU units needed), it is still fully relevant for a European reader too. Loved it, definitely recommended!

It is a remarkable achievement to ever cure or even prevent the Alzheimer's disease since much of the underlying mechanisms are still under elusive. Therefore it is especially inspiring to read success stories from many individual trails guided by the theory and practice developed by M.D. Bredesen and his colleagues. He seems to be able to mordernize the ancient philosophy by implement its philosophy with 21st-century analytical and experimentational biology.

Who wants to disappear into being a vegetable? Although the medical profession still have no remedy for this dreadful disease which seems to be accelerating within our population, the book yields wonderful ideas and remedies for holding back this disease. Good food and regular exercise are the main components for holding back the disease, however, the book delves much further into more detail on how we can help ourselves which is reassuring to the reader. This book is for everyone, not only for seniors but all adults, as this disease starts long before the symptoms become apparent as the book explains. It sounds scary, and indeed this disease is, but by reading this book I found I understood so much more about this disease that I've not found anywhere else. The book brings, not just information about the disease, but also hope and reassurance through its many ideas on how to conquer it and how to live a happy and healthy full life. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
