The Music Man [Blu-ray]

It would be a sure bet that a large portion of U.S. citizenry would still be able to recognize and maybe even hum a bar or two of "Seventy-Six Trombones" the signature but by no means only classic song in this classic musical about Professor Harold Hill a traveling sales conman, Marian a lovelorn librarian and a whole backdrop of vintage early 20th century Americana. This was another musical etched in my memory from listening to my dad's 8-track tapes in his pickup truck at work on weekends as a young boy. It was when I developed a love of barbershop quartet singing and the "patter" style of Meredith Wilson's lyrics fascinated me. How did those people talk and sing so fast?! Hopefully this movie musical will bring back some found memories to others as well. If you're not tapping your feet and grinning ear to ear you might have somebody take your pulse.The Blu-ray gives a really nice filmlike image with tight grain, solid blacks in the night scenes and full rich colors without being overblown. The DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack is great with solid musical fidelity and clear dialog. The supplements are a little thin with a short intro by Shirley Jones and an interesting behind the scenes featurette again hosted by Shirley Jones. For any fan of classic musicals this is a must own.

I can't help it that I have to sing along with this whole movie! Watching it as a child it is a familiar movie and very comforting. I love this movie and now I can watch it any time!

An old classic. Excellent movie. We watched it before going to a live performance of The Music Man.

I still catch myself humming or singing these tunes. Corny, funny, romantic, with a great finish. What more could you ask for in a movie or a great wine.

The music, story, dancing, singing, and comedy and a blu ray with great a picture and sound. What could go wrong?.I have a very unusual problem with this Blu Ray.I've bought this movie long ago and replaced it with this better version for better sound and picture.Here is the problem. We hadn't watched this movie for quite awhile and suddenly had the desire to see it again.Everything was as good as usual except there seemed to be missing segments throughout the movie. Also my blu ray player couldn't open the set up page. Really weird. 2 blu ray players did the same thing!

A lost art. The last musicals I can rememberin recent times, 2023, were Hairspray and Pitch Perfect. May be hockey for today's audience but we're part of my growing up.

Great musical. Great songs. Great story.

Classic movie from my childhood. I watch it at least once a year. It brings back lots of fond memories of sitting on the couch watching movies with my mom

Musicals kann ich nur in ihrer Orginalsprache anschauen, dies hat hiermit wunderbar funktioniert. Hat ein wenig gedauert, bis die DVD aus den USA angereist ist, hat sich aber voll gelohnt! War ein tolles Erlebnis, diesen Film von dem ich schon so vieles gehört habe in seiner ganzen Glorie zu sehen.
