Good to get rid of insects inside, but not around animals
I had an infestation of gnats. It was impossible to get rid of them by conventional means. I used several electronic insect zappers to attack the problem. It has really helped to cut down on the numbers. I used a stationary device which attracted and disposed of them. I also used this tennis racket-like device. This device helped to get the insects who were not going to the stationary device. It served well to get those gnats which were moving around. The trick is to get the insects to go towards, or at least not away from, this device. When there were gnats on the wall, I found it was better to knock the wall first, and then to move this device around to get the gnats. Also there are usually gnats in high places, like the ceiling, so I used a broom to stir them up and then whirled this device around to get them. This device kills, or maybe sometimes stuns, the insects. I am not sure about that. But whatever happens, the insects will fall below. So at some point, there will be insect clean up needed. It is a great design and works really well. It is easy to use. The recharge feature is very good. Also I found that my pets are really scared of this device. My cats ran away when I used it in the room where they were staying. My birds started screaming, and one bird, my conure, who was on my shoulder, flew away and hid. This is not a good device to use when pets or non-insect animals are around.I have to add that in my war on the gnats, this was a great tool. It was very satisfying to hear the little crack that showed I had got some. I have had to work on this project for several days, and the numbers are down. This device only gets a few insects in each swing. It is also a matter of chasing them around each time. They fly to upper regions or to other parts of the room. Each morning I find fewer gnats, which makes it worthwhile.

Works Great! A Few Tips....
This electric fly swatter works great! It works for a long time before it needs to be charged (it’s nice to have a rechargeable battery powering the thing!), and it’s pretty good at zapping houseflies and mosquitoes (fruit flies, so-so, but a roll of fly paper works for them). A couple of notes, though:1. Don’t throw away your old manual fly swatter! They have two different uses that each is best for. The electric fly swatter is good for killing flies mid-air and for catching them against a wall, curtain, etc. The manual fly swatter is good for when a fly is sitting against a hard, flat-ish surface (like a wall or radiator pipe), but you can’t easily trap the thing by banging the electric fly swatter flush against the surface. The manual fly swatter is better for this. It’s also good for swatting at flies that are hard-to-reach with the electric fly swatter.2. Practice makes perfect! You won’t be killing tons of flies at first. Every human has a hunting instinct—use yours. Eventually you’ll find a rhythm that works for you. As a bonus, you’ll improve your tennis swing.3. Once you kill a fly (you’ll know by the “snap” noise the fly swatter makes), dump it in the trash/toilet/enemy’s lunch/whatever. If you keep the button pressed, trying to swat another fly, the electric current will continue to pass through the already-deceased fly until it essentially vaporizes it. It’s overkill, and it stinks like burning hair. Be aware, though, that particularly large flies, like horseflies, need to be zapped a few (several) times before they perish.4. If you have housecats, they may be frightened by this. I have no idea why. It could be the sound of the current or the “snap” when you kill a fly; it could be that they’re afraid of being smacked with it?; it could be they’ve befriended your pests and are aggrieved, watching you kill their airborne buddies; it could be that they’re secretly angry because they wanted the opportunity to kill the flies themselves—not that they would, as that’s too much like work—but they resent having the opportunity taken away from them. Who knows? They’re cats. But be forewarned—you might send your kitties scrambling when you whip this baby out.All this said, this product is totally worth the money. Happy hunting!

No indicatior LED light, but has a flashlight; works as intended.
So far so good. These things are very decently light compared to the ones that use C-sized alkaline batteries. It is hopeful that the plastic doesn’t break. This product should be used to wave around in the air to touch the pests. It is not intended to “hit” or “smack” anything because it will likely break. I do however notice that I catch more pests the faster I wave it in the air (be aware of your environment; try not to break anything or hurt anyone). The flys that I manage to hit with this make a loud snapping sound. Sometimes they survive the hit and fly away, but most times they fall to the ground subdued, allowing you to step on them. Other times they get stuck in it and make a little lightning bolt arc shine from their bodies. This usually results in a burned smell if you continue to press the energizing button (which I will explain in a moment). This USB rechargeable zap rackets come with one cord, but this product assumes that you have a charging port available to plug it into. I already have an adapter cord for a cell phone tht fits. The charge cord fits behind the yellow door at the base of the handle. I like that this product has switches on it. One on the side that cuts power to the metal completely, and one in the middle of the handle to control a light. Why it needs a light is beyond me, but it’s there if you need it. The main button that energizes the metal grid is a black button on the side of the black handle. Perhaps it should have been a different color? There is only one LED light on the handle. This is here only to show you that the racket is charging (red) and that it is finished charging (green). I have a mini Zap racket set that have a useful red LED light that shines to show you that the metal grid is being energized every time it’s yellow button (like the black one in this racket) is pressed, and a green one lower on the handle that only shines to indicate when it is finished recharging. So this racket does not have the indicator that assures you that it is working. Oh, and instructions say it should be charged before use. It also says it can be recharged a thousand times (or something along those lines) because of the powerful lithium battery, but I have yet to charge it again (since the first charge after I received it). I have already killed around 60 flies and a few mosquitoes with one of them on a single charge and it shows no signs of weakening. Both this large and my mini rackets have fully charged within two hours. I have not shocked myself yet, and I have noticed that this is due to the safe design. I am fairly certain that shocking yourself is a possibility if you are determined to do it, but I highly recommend that you not. I am otherwise thoroughly satisfied with this product so far but I will return to update this review if I find any problems or flaws to adjust the star rating. Until an energization indicator light is added to this older model, I shall leave room for improvement.
