You have to read it! - Drown in you is a novella by J. Rose, whose books I just simply adore. So It was no surprise that I fell in love with this book as well. It is a dark and captivating story that will just simply draw you in. The only downside to this book is, that it is too short. I want more. This story introduces us to two very strong female characters whose backgrounds made me cry. I have no idea why I became so emotionally invested in these two, after reading the first chapter, but I did. Their character development is so well done for a novella. Overall, this book is a perfect combination of plot and spicy scenes, which J.Rose went all out for because they were freaking amazing. It is a dark romance and it talks about topics that many can find triggering so please read TWs before picking it up. Review: Great Read - 4 stars 3 spice Dark, Second Chance, BDSM, FF Ariel and Leah grew up in an incredibly harsh, strict, and traditional church. Ariel’s father was the Pastor and he was far beyond abusive. Nothing Ariel could do was good enough. One night after a particularly rough beating, Ariel meets Leah like they often do. Ariel begs Leah to run away with her. When they get caught in a compromising position by Ariel’s father, she flees while Leah stays and accepts the despicable “punishment” that the pastor doles out. Nine years later, Ariel and Leah cross paths again. Ariel helps Leah let go of her demons. This one left me with my head spinning. The story was compelling and fully brought to life even in its short nature. This is not a lighthearted, seventy page read. It is full of turmoil, heartbreak, and darkness. Both Leah and Ariel come out lighter on the other side. If you were to pick this one up, please pay serious attention to the Trigger Warnings. The author may push you to your limits with this one.

dark, sapphic, forbidden
I love J Rose so much, and I'd love to see her write a full length sapphic novel one day *cough, coough*. This is a great dark sapphic romance if you love a second chance romance surrounding religious trauma. This angsty romance is a great quick read to help you make your reading goal. If you love mental health rep, J Rose has a little of it in almost all her books. What to expect: Religious trauma Forbidden Sapphic Second chance

great short read
I love how the author presented this in a way that they are able to take back their power after trauma. The spice was very good and dark.

Short but impactful
J. Rose never fails. Even with this short story, her characters are complex and flawed. Despite it being a quick read, it was a hard one as well. Religious trauma is such a complex and slippery slope.

Cruelty that shocks your believe
Emotionally heart wrecking story from the 1st pages, of our FMC's introduction. A 5🌟 for the amazing author J Rose. Captivated and left with so much emotions to get under controle, i was left with tears of joy at the end. What a book!! Would love to see how their story developed further after all the pain and suffering. And revenge on their evil dads. Otherwise, 🔥 and deeply emotional story that leaves you breathless.

“You don’t pray to God here. Pray to me.”
The smut is the plot, but man—oh man, if it isn’t some of the hottest FF smut I have ever read. When it comes to novellas, it is (often) very hard to include any sense of genuine truth to dark matters (i.e., dark romance) because there needs to be a build-up of sorts. Yet, J. was able to capture that sense of build-up while also integrating genuine aspects of dynamic control into the mix. While it still was no novel in-of itself, it was still perfect writing and wonderful representations of SM through female perspectives. I do urge readers to go into the novel with the approach of “these main characters already have a relationship within themselves and I am merely a witness” rather than “I want to see this relationship build/grow.” In other words, you are nothing but a voyeur with this one, but it is still *chefs kiss*. PS: I genuinely love and appreciate J’s triggers warning, statistics, & helplines regarding LGBTQ+ persons and mental health rates. It made me smile. PPS: Can we have more Ariel & Leah content??? Now I want to be involved in the criminal trial case. *pouts*

Be aware of triggers before reading 🖤 I loved this little novella - it was such a quick easy read but it was written amazingly. As always, I am head first collided with J Rose’s world. I want to stay here and never leave. Leah and Ariel have a past, they were lovers when they were younger. However, situations arise which result in the couple being separated and years later at a support group, the last person which Leah thought she’d stumble upon, happens to be Ariel. After some persuasion, Leah decides to give Ariel one night. The chemistry between these two characters is beautiful - they both have faced demons together in the past, got more demons when they were without each other but now they are prepared to fight their demons, together once again. I absolutely adore Leah and Ariel and I really hope they make a reappearance in a story in the future.

Short, spicy, FF dark romance, please check the TWs. I really enjoyed this short story! Both characters have gone through major trauma and deal with it in very different ways. I can’t say more without spoiling the story, but as usual, J Rose managed to grip me with the first couple words, her writing is always on point.

Drown in You is a sapphic novella This is your vibe if you like Short reads Sapphic Dark themes This isn’t my first time reading J rose so I was stoked to find this pop up in my sapphic read searching. I really enjoyed the writing as well as Ariel & Leah’s story. My only issue is that I wanted more. I wanted to expand on the years they were apart. But it was a great short read

Interesting. I feel like this would've been better if it were a full length novel. I have too many questions. Although I'm definitely here for the smutty FF novellas.

Ariel and Leah. A hidden love. A world against them. An indissoluble bond. Met at a tender age, they loved each other, despite their differences. And they lost one another due to a life led by rules inflicted in the name of God. There is no peace for people like them in the place they grow up. There is no redemption for their souls, while condemned to a living hell for every single mistake they make. Nothing hallowed happens at Darkling Heath. Faith won't keep you safe while you're life is in pastor's Kane hands. Reason why, in the darkest of nights, Leah decides for both of them: suppress their love so they can both survive. But that’s not what destiny has in plan for their two broken hearts. Years after, they meet again. They’re Different. Damaged. But still deeply in love with each other. They allow themselves one last night together, in order to leave the past behind. To save themselves, or loss themselves for once and for all. Will the sun ever rise again for them or will they drown together in the darkness? Once again, author J Rose proves us to know how to touch the deepest strings of our hearts, and she is capable to do it in just 6 chapters; so intense that I feel like I have known the two protagonists since forever. Each page screams their past, the pain, the will to live instead of surviving. And again, she shows us that only the power of love can free us from of the rough patches that we’ve been through.
