Finally an astronaut is added to the series!
The Little People Big Dreams series is great if you want a biographical picture book to introduce an important person to a younger child or as a quick primer story for older kids before they do more research. If you are looking for a biography this will probably disappoint. I usually love the Little People Big Dreams series in that they are biographical picture books that make learning about a new person accessible to younger children. My 7, 8, and 10 year olds has thoroughly enjoyed this series as we have been slowly going through them.Like all the books in the series, this book starts out with Neil Armstrong as a child and how he came to love flying. It goes onto mention how he received his pilots license as a teen and went onto study aeronautical engineering. It briefly mentions him being drafted for the Korean war and how he won a medals for bravery during the war. The book then talks about him flying rockets and his eventual employment with NASA. It spends several pages talking about his landing on the moon and how his footprints are still on the moon since there is no wind on the moon.Overall we really liked the book. It is odd that it took this many books before an astronaut was included in this series. I know recently Mae Jemison was also released this year so we are looking forward to also exploring that book in the series. Usually after we are done with each of the books from this series I create activities for my kids based on the book. For this one we just explored videos of the moon landing and we had fun asking each other questions about what it would be like up there.Review For:Neil Armstrong (Little People, BIG DREAMS)
