#8 Deck Screws, Select Length in Listing, 18-8 Stainless Steel, Square Drive, Type 17 Wood Cutting Point, Quantity 100 (#8 x 2") by Fastenere

We all use MDF, chip board and particle board because it’s cheap and practical in some situations. However, these materials don’t hold screws very well because they’re too soft...especially MDF (medium density fiberboard). These stainless steel screws are self tapping and have a coarse thread that’s a larger diameter than the shank diameter of the screw, with a slightly deeper valley than the shank, making it grab the material better and more securely than any other wood screw I’ve tried. Too fine a thread on the screw simply won’t hold the project together because the material just breaks off between the peak and valley of the screw’s helix. Also, the square drive won’t slip and bugger the screw head like Phillips and slotted heads get buggered, allowing you to cinch up the joints tightly and effortlessly. If you use these softer, inexpensive materials, then you need fasteners that will do the job right the first time, and hold it together for years to come. I’ve found these screws to be the best solution when using these softer, cheaper materials, but I also use a good carpenter’s glue to add needed strength to joints. Try these for yourself and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Going to preface this that I was a bit hesitant to buy these as numerous people reported stripping out the heads. I've used stainless steel screws a few times in the past with same issue. Just needed to realize stainless screws are softer so I consider pre-drilling a must. Some had reported they still had issues even after pre-drilling, which makes me wonder how they were pre-drilling, into what, and how deep? I used countersink tapered bits and drilled to the bottom depth, with torque setting on the drill set to 8 when I put the screws in. Did not have a single head strip out on me, all screws seemed to have good bite as well. This was done on some old mahogany decking that I was reusing to build adirondack chairs. Use them properly and you shouldn't have an issue

I bought these 2" "18-8" screws from seller "ROBIN M STAR". They are advertised as 18-8 stainless. They are not 18-8 stainless. I posted three pictures - one is me holding the entire bag of screws with a magnet that is touching only one screw. 18-8 is only barely magnetic. So that establishes this as not 18-8.Second picture shows three screws - a 1" 18-8 screw bought from Fastenere, one of ROBIN M STAR's 2" 18-8 screws, and a drywall screw. Note that the ROBIN M STAR screw is covered in bubbles. I believe that is the zinc plating getting eaten away. Note that the Fastenere screws appear to be legit 18-8 and are good quality.Third picture shows how a bunch of the heads of these are filled in with metal. So even if they actually *were* stainless - they're still not usable.Come on guys, where is the honesty? Stop wasting my time with dishonest listings.

These screws are very weak metal! I twisted the head off of two screws back to back before switching to some other screws I had around. I ended up having to use a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to cut the exposed parts of the screws off so I could srill holes next to them and try again with better screws.Would not recommend unless you are screwing into something VERY soft.Oh, and the screws sheared off with both a regular drill and a hammer drill.

These screws are easily the worst screws I have ever purchased. On about 1/2 of the screws I have tried to use, the heads have broken off as soon as the head hits the wood... or sooner... even on low torque settings.Spend a little more money, and get top quality screws.I purchased (3) different sizes of these screws, and they all have the exact same poor quality and results.I am astonished they have gotten such good reviews in the past.

There ares square-drive (Robertson) screws which are much easier to use than conventional slotted or Philips types. They are stainless, making them suitable for outdoor or seaside applications. Such stainless screws are not quite as strong as regular steel, which means that the Robertson drive is especially appropriate. Non only can do drive them well, but you can remove them (if necessary) years later. You will have trouble removing rusted desk screws, especially if they are slotted or Philips types.Contrary to the illustrations, these are really normal, right-handed screws. They just printed the pictures backwards. (That often happens.)

The listing said bright finish stainless. I received dull finish screws that were strongly magnetic. The bag did not describe the contents in any way that would help. Brand in listing: Lightning Stainless.On the same day I received an order from a different vendor for a different length stainless steel screw by a different manufacturer (SNUG fasteners). These had a bright finish and were non-magnetic.

Buyer be aware!! This order of stainless steel screws broke off twice in soft cedar. Not what I expected from this expensive product. Screw heads also stripped out. Found a different size from a different order and the color is different. These screws are more like aluminum than stainless steel. Spend a little more and be sure to get good quality. I will not buy from this seller again. Poor quality is not the way to build a business and I’m taking my business elsewhere.
