Great start sad ending....
This was going to be my gateway into setting up a smart home on a budget. Initially when I received the plugs setup was a breeze, began using with alexa. Gained big points with the wife being able to control lights without here moving from the couch. Less than 3 1/2 months later they refuse to stay connected, I have to reset every two hours or less which is a great pain. I have since just disconnected them and put them in a box. Wished they worked longer and more consistently.UPDATE........After the company read my review they reached out and provided me with a software update for the plugs. After the update, they work flawlessly. Now we come into the house and ask "Alexa" to turn on the lights and they turn as advertised. Thank you TanTan for your great customer service. Rerating to 5 stars!!

2.4 GHz is the key
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. My first Alexa enabled smart home device is woking like a charm. I bought two smart plug, one for Christmas tree light and one for main living room light. I agree to some of the review comments that its not that straight forward to set it up, but let me write it down here on how I did so that it might help someone. This is for iPhone users.Step 1:Install TuyaSmart app. RegisterStep 2In Alexa App, go to Skills, type Smart Life, Enable Skill, Use the user name / password you used to register in TuyaSmart AppStep 3I was using a NetGear router. It was both 2.4 GHz as well as 5 GHz. (how you can find, type 192.168.1.1 for netgear, you can get these for Linksys etc from google). Type 192.168.1.1 and then enable only the 2.4 GHz ( You can change it to original once set up is done)Step 4If you do the Step 3 properly, your connection from App to Smart Plug would say its enabled. Otherwise, it will say failed and asked for retry. What I did ( not sure its needed or not) is, after step 3, I unplugged the power of the router, waited 10 seconds and reconnected.Step 5Ask alexa to search for device or go to alexa and search for devices. Once found, change the title so that you can add something like "christmas light".Happy Smart Homing...

Great product unless you care at all about security and privacy.
This is my first "smart home" device, other than the Amazon Echo itself. I thought it would be pretty cool to be able to turn on lamps (without spending forty dollars on a fancy LED bulb that'll last a few months) or about anything else I wanted to plug in. Yes, I planned to use these with my Echo. I was surprised that there was absolutely NOTHING in the box to indicate how to get these working. I scanned the QR code and downloaded the app, which is how you have to do it. I created an account which of course requires validation of your cell phone number and/or email address. The app looks pretty well designed and user-friendly.When I tried to add my first device to the app, I was prompted to allow/deny device location on my phone. I'm sorry, by the idea of letting who-knows-who know my precise location on Earth for just about any purpose really bothers me. GPS coordinates for driving directions is probably my only exception. Of course, after I denied such access, I could not proceed. I wasted my money and time buying these "smart plugs" - which I guess I'll now call SURVEILLANCE and COMPROMISE plugs. Worse yet is the fact that these need to connect to your wireless network (obviously, as that's how Amazon Echo can communicate with them) - but my problem is this: They get your WiFi SSID (network name) and it's security key (password) along with your precise location. Think about that, people. You are essentially giving the world access to home/office network. Who knows what these companies do with this info, and how they protect it? Think about it - would you give your WiFi password to a known sex offender down the street? How about the whole world? If you don't care about your personal privacy (location) I guess I can understand. But don't compromise security as well. If you want to use this sort of thing, I'd suggest using a separate SSID and password from your usual one and restrict device access by MAC address if your router/access point supports it.This product itself might be great, I'll never know as I have already initiated a return (just received it today). I'm tired of all the data mining going on. Amazon itself is bad enough, but I know they have invested in the security of my information and they have a lot to lose WHEN there is a breach. The random company from Hong Kong that makes the app that runs these plugs? Who knows?

You are required to give access to your phone's camera in the terms
When we went to download the app, the terms we were forced to agree to if we wanted to use the app consisted of giving access to our phones camera and photos, among other private information. There's no reason access to my photos is required for a plug that will be used to turn a light on and off remotely. We are returning the product.Update: January 2019Mike Henderson of the company emailed me and asked me to remove my negative feedback. He even said he'd give me $25if I remove my feedback.Sounds like this company pays people to give good reviews. I wouldn't trust any good review from this company at this point. My review accurately reflected my experience. If I am sent an updated product that doesn't have the issues of the old product, then I would write a good review based on the updated product. But I'm not giving a bad product a good review.

Blown away, for the price and quality!
I bought three, then I bought another 4! These plugs are amazing and with the “smart life” app, provide seamless control of my lights. Even more mind blowing, my girlfriend flew from New York to Oklahoma and can control the lights in the bedroom on the app from over a 1,000 miles away. If that doesn’t speak for the product I don’t know what else will. Buy the plug, turn off your crockpot from work, worry less, and improve your existence.

Very easy to use
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I liked the ease of pairing the plug to my phone. I can turn the light off with my phone after I leave the room. I love the possibilities these offer. I will highly recommend these to my friends!

Brilliant
Don’t know why I hadn’t heard of these until my neighbour made me aware of this product. Using one currently to pre-heat espresso machine in mornings…….and for when I arrive home in afternoons from work. Can’t wait to find other uses for remaining 3.

Useful gadget
It took some time to connect to it using the android app but maybe I was doing something wrong. It works surprisingly good both on home WiFi and mobile network. I was expecting glitches when on mobile network but I didn't notice any difference.

Complicated to configurate but worth it for now!
After splitting my 2 wifi networks (5G & 2,4G), it was still little bit of a challenge to make them work. With a lot of perseverance and a couple of hours, they did work in the end. I like that I can control them from afar with the app or my Google Home app. Happy with the purchase!
