Taste not as bad as some reviews say
Taste not as bad as some reviews say, don't be afraid because it works to make you sleepy. To me it has a slight sweet taste to it. The smell is a bit strong but don't be a wimp. I went for it, 5 drops straight under the tongue to see what all the complaining and fuss was about. Had a prune-like flavor like dried prunes. I'm 119 lbs and a female, was able to handle the smell and taste no problem. All these reviewers complaining and whining freaked me out until I went for it straight and it was fine. Will do it again when needed. For people on the fence don't be afraid, if you can't sleep try this for fast safe relief - 5 drops under the tongue, hold there for a minute, drink water, brush teeth, go relax and sleep. Easy. Done.

Good value. Quality product. Works for me.
Everybody complains about the smell/taste. I have no problem with it. I put a dropper full under my tongue for a couple of minutes, then wash it down with some water. In about 10 minutes I start to feel the relaxation wash over me. You can use two droppers full if you want the maximum effect. I’m a big guy, so a double dose doesn’t hurt when I really need to relax. I’ve gone through a couple of bottles already. I have found that it works better the longer you use it. The 2 oz bottle is the best value and this stuff is potent. I would recommend trying this before resorting to any prescription meds for stress or sleeplessness.

It is not bad at all
I see some taste complaints in reviews... It is not bad at all. The manufacturer uses vegetable glycerin (to make it alcohol-free) to preserve it and dilute it to reasonable thickness, so maybe people that got used to alcohol-based extract taste have different expectations, I'm not sure... Dissolve 28 drops (1oz) in small quantity of water (I use 1/5 cup or less) - one big gulp - rinse it down with another gulp of fresh water. This is not a sleeping aid. It is supposed to calm you down, if your heart is racing, for example - it should help you relax and slow down your heartbeat. It also supposed to help you stay asleep. Might help you to get deeper, better quality sleep. After 2-3 weeks of use its effect weakens - you have to take a brake from it for it to become effective again. This is from my research into it and it does help me. I bought many bottles, for me and my father, of this exact brand over the years, it works for me for what I described above.

It’s a quality product, just a little different than expected
This Valerian is very gentle. I use it before sleep and for sciatica nerve pain. The previous brand I used was more potent, but this is nice, and I would buy it again. If one is new to taking Valerian and isn’t sure how it will affect oneself, it’s good to try because it’s so gentle. This brand does not help me stay asleep and does not get rid of my pain altogether, but it does take the edge off and is beneficial (for me). **This is not medical advice. Consult with your naturopathic or osteopathic doctor for your specific needs.

Works great; tastes better than most
I have taken Valerian root for years, sporadically because the taste is so awful that I really have to be into a persistent insomnia mode to go that route, though my neurologist has told me that it is the best thing to take for sleep issues - doesn't react to most other drugs and doesn't become less effective over time. The taste, though, is usually like sweaty gym socks. Hardly the last thing you want in your mouth before you lie down for the night. When I read other reviews comparing the taste to flowers... whoa. Not my flowers. If you grow Valerian the flowers do smell nice, but the roots never, and I wonder if they've been taking the flowers, which shouldn't be as strong for insomnia. This ValerianRoot, though, while it still tastes strong, tastes more to me like fig newtons or molasses. Still very strong, dark taste, but easy to imagine it's something way better than old gym socks. I am back at Amazon to order more.

Help’s to get to sleep
I think for what this cost it’s a good deal, I’m going to buy some more when I get low on it.

Works but tastes awful
Helps me to sleep, but is the worst tasting valerian root I’ve ever used.

Works
It promotes a calming effect pretty quickly when compared to the capsule form. It does have a pretty bad smell but it does not taste as bad as you would think. I have mixed it with root beer, tea, water (in a shot glass) and also an energy drink. I think it helps with day to day anxiety for me and also can cause a little drowsiness if you are not adjusted to taking Valerian root. Seems to work this is the only liquid brand I have tried so far I don't feel so anxious and can relax without my mind racing around. When I first started taking Valerian root I had minor stomach issues, so I was already used to this before taking this product. Just be careful not to take too much and watch out for your stomach at first.
