Heavy duty
It’s exactly what you need. It is heavy in a pack out however the hatchet can take a beating and it comes sharp and can be used as a hammer. Shape is good, I wanted the other version with the wood handle but it was to expensive. This is exactly the same but with a rubber shock absorbent handle. Feels durable and feels strong and comfortable in hand. Great price point, great product.

Best small hatchet, hands down.
I have destroyed 3 other inexpensive small hatchets just splitting 12 inch oak for my grill and that's why I purchased this one because it's solid all the way through. I'm an old man so I use a 2 lb hammer to drive this hatchet to make small firewood for grilling, probably about 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches by 12 inches. All red and post oak with no bark. The hammer has eventually destroyed every hatchet I've used. Not this one... keeps a good edge and you can hardly tell that I've even used a hammer on it at all. Also it has very little to no vibration transfer through the handle. No doubt I could chop down a small tree but I use it for splitting small firewood and it's the best I've had. Side note...if you cook with charcoal... try cooking with oak only, no charcoal... you food will taste so much better... just saying

Great Axe, Minor Sheath Issue Easily Resolved
I’ve seen several reviews mentioning issues with the sheath—people struggling to open it and potentially injuring themselves when trying to remove the axe. Thanks to those reviews, I was extra careful when handling it. I discovered a simple solution: just rotate the sheath along the arc (as shown in the attached picture) and it slides in and out easily. Given the number of negative reviews about the sheath, I would suggest that the manufacturer add this picture to the product label, which would resolve the issue for good. As for the blade, it’s not razor-sharp, but that’s typical for most affordable axes on the market. I haven’t used it extensively yet, so I can’t comment on the steel quality at this point. However, the axe’s overall construction—made in the US—along with its shape, handle, and blade symmetry, is excellent. I’m giving it 5 stars for being a solid, well-made product from the US.

Will last forever with heavier weight to consider.
If you're trying to feed a small stove or fire pit, this is a great value. It's sharp out of the box, has a good head shape, and is solid steel, no handle to ever break. That's also however a down side as the weight is too evenly distributed due to the heavier handle making chopping more labor intensive as is throughout their product line. So it's somewhat of a trade off, but for the casual camper who doesn't have to worry about carrying greater weight it's a great small hatchet. From small fire wood production to shelter building this will do it.

Decent axe... but came with chipped edge
Took a while to receive the shipment as it was stuck in USPS facility. Overall, the quality and feel of the axe is quite nice. However mine came with a noticeable chip on the blade; still debating if I should return and hope the next one is free from this issue...

usa made awesomeness at a killer price. GET IT
I bought this to retire my old estwing that my grandfather gave to me probably 40 years ago. It arrived hair shaving sharp, in perfect condition. It smacks right through smaller pieces of wood, wet or dry. I got mine on sale for $36. YOU CANNOT TOUCH THIS PERFORMANCE on any other hatchet in this price point.if you need a hatchet that you can give to your kids and their kids, estwing is the no brainer choice. Made in the USA of proper tool steel. Their 1055 is TOUGH, and easy to resharpen. Stoked to take it camping here in Colorado with my new cold steel trail boss.

Worth the money, last hatchet I’ll ever own.
I had thought long and hard before I bought this hatchet. I’ve always owned traditional wooden handle single bit hatchets. I bought this explicitly After reading so many positive reviews. It does need a good sharpening out of the box like any bought axe, but this really will be the last hatchet you’ll ever want to use. Handle absorbed so much inertia, the solid steel construction, really holds up, it looks like it’s gonna stand up against water or any conditions that would rust or weaken the wood on an old school hatchet. The tent stake puller really is perfectly sized and angled, it yanks a stake right out. The blade takes an edge like a knife would. I don’t see myself ever needing to buy another hatchet, but if I do, it will be an estwing. And the sheath is super snug and secure.

Great quality
Good quality. I ordered a used one first time around to save a few dollars but it was well used and had been sharpened.I would splurge and get a new one.

El acero se siente de calidad y el mango es increíble, se nota que amortigua muy bien los golpes y no se resbala para nada.

Produto de altíssima qualidade. Veio extremamente afiada e com uma bainha linda. Cabo encurvado para frente. Achei sensacional a pegada e o balanço. Indico de olhos fechados.

These are best hatchet ever. I hunt and snare. Had a blue handled one when I was young. Lost it years ago.

The sheath is garbage and hardly useful (Made in Taiwan, not USA), it also looks the sheath is broken or a rivet was placed there by accident. The rubber handle feels much worse than previously purchased Estwing products and looks cheaply made with bubbles and flakes of plastic coming off. I meant to return this but I missed the return window. It will still do a good job for what it was purchased for but a shame at how quality has gone down.
