This thing is the the size of an encyclopedia!!! There is a great forward written by Stan Lee, where he reveals how Spiderman almost never came to be. Its amazing how Spiderman almost never came to be, but when it happened, it turned out to be one of the most successful comic characters in history. This is the REAL history of Spiderman and how he came to be. I do like the Hollywood movies, but as with many things in Hollywood, they don't stick to the original story. The pages of the book are nice glossy reprints of the originals. Near the beginning, there are one or two issues where they refer to Peter Parker as Peter Palmer....not sure if it was a mistake that was overlooked, but still something to add to the interesting history of Spiderman. The artwork in comparison to modern comics is very "smooth." I find that modern art style is somewhat jagged and sharp, but that just personal preference. eg. I was not a fan of Todd McFarlane's work in the 90's. If you are a fan of Spiderman, get this hardcover edition. You won't be dissappointed. FIVE STARS!!!!!
