Really great looking locks and simple design!
I just closed on a house and needed to replace all the locks and I thought I'd go keyless. I got this lock because it had very good reviews and matches my current door handle and the outgoing dead bolt. It was very easy to install and program. Really nice feel and solid construction. Made in Mexico and not China.. Now I don't need any keys or worry about locking myself out or fumbling in my pocket for keys while I have grocery in my arms. I can input multiple combo entry for everyone and delete them as I desire; if the combo was a temporary one for a visitor. I like the manual bolt action as it assures me it will not malfunction as much as one that is electronic. I also like the key override. ( I know some say that the 5 pin tumbler is the weak link and it could be picked. I know how to pick locks and I can assure you that if I wanted to get into a house, front door would be the last point of entry considered. And if a thief is determined, electronic locks are not much of a deterrent out of many other easy access into a home.) It took us longer to decide on the combo for the lock than to change the locks. Very hard to think of a number we'd remember and not forget.. that was not the usual social, b-day, or any other number that is public knowledge with just a click of a keyboard these days. It's a four number combo, which I thought would be easy to brute force your way in 30 min or so, but it has a 3 incorrect try timeout which was a nice smart design surprise. The large numeric buttons has a nice blue night light and is easy to read. It has a nice clear plastic coating that makes it wear resistant. I don't think we need to re-key the locks often to wear out all the numbers evenly. Even if they wear, I'd just sand the other numbers to match. All the online review says it is one of the most reliable locks on the market but only time will tell. Very Happy with the purchase!

Surprisingly easy to install
I"m very pleased with this lock. Despite some issues (explained below) it's a terrific lock, installs pretty easily, programs easily, and works with no trouble. The saga: I bought two from Warehouse Deals. One was described as having minor superficial scuffs, which was accurate. That lock was repacked in a plastic bag and had no directions at all. The second lock had no discernible blemishes, full documentation, and was in the normal box with internal divisions. It looked brand new. I installed the lock from the box first, since it had directions. I installed it, then reinstalled it twice in an effort to get it working. Finally I called Schlage tech support. After waiting through a longish queue I talked with a VERY competent support tech. After some troubleshooting via phone he decided the lock was defective and they would send a replacement. I appreciated the competence of the support tech and the way Schlage stood behind their product. After all the experience with the first lock it took just a few minutes to install the second lock. It worked perfectly. I just have to be careful how I document the access codes I added. These locks can hold 19 custom access codes! Each lock comes with two keys. Those worked well, too, even on the "defective" lock. It's an impressive lock. Installation is quite simple (if drilling holes in doors is simple for you). The lock itself installs with just four screws, plus two screws for the bolt face and four screws for the striker plate. The lock requires a 9 volt battery which is supplied with the lock (Duracell battery). The keypad has a good "feel" when used--you know if you pushed the button or not. The keypad illumination works well at night. So, despite some initial challenges, I'm VERY pleased with this lock. Thus, five stars.

Sturdy, attractive, easy to install, and freedom from keys!
A coworker installed Kwikset 910 Z-Wave SmartCode Electronic Deadbolt recently and raved about it, so I also got a 910 model for the front door and a 909 (non Z-wave) for the garage door to replace existing Schlage manual locks. The Kwikset locks were flimsy junk that wasted hours of my life. I've since installed a bronze and a chrome Schlage BE365VCAM619 Camelot Keypad Deadbolt (manually-operated keypad locks), which are super sturdy and a snap to install (took under a minute). Hefty metal all around, including the entire bolt chamber. Interesting feature of the outside lock knob is that it freely spins around in either direction (so it can't be forced open) until the right code has been entered, then it engages (with beep & green light flash) so you can turn the actual lock. Accordingly, to lock from the outside, press the Schlage logo button at the top, then turn the knob. From the inside, it's the usual 11 / 1 O'clock knob turn (always engaged). This with keyless entry cars now lets my wife and me never have to worry about remembering, carrying, or digging for a key ever again, especially with our hands full with the kids & assorted bags/groceries! Pro: 1. MUCH sturdier in heft and mounting than Kwikset, which felt like a toy in comparison 2. Very easy to install 3. 10 individual number buttons vs Kwikset's 5 4. Long-lasting 9V battery (included), especially since lock is manually turned 5. Stores up to 19 user codes at once (you can delete specific ones, all, or reset all to factory default). Each house member can use a code of his/her liking, and temporary codes can be made for workers, friends, etc. Con: 1. No auto-lock feature like Kwikset Neutral: 1. Had to bring them to a locksmith to match my existing keys (optional; comes with 2 keys each) 2. Only 4 digit lock codes (but then so are most ATM pins & combo locks)

Great Lock and the Key is in Your Head
This Schlage electronic keypad deadbolt has a trusted design that has been around for a number of years. We had our old nickel one for about five years and it has been very reliable. That one moved from the front door to the garage side door and we now have a Smartkey lock with remote key fob on the front entry to the house. When it came to installing a lock for our studio door we went back to the Schlage because of its price and reliability. The new lock has had some minor improvements from the original we bought a few years ago. These revisions make installation easier with simple inexpensive additions to the original internal design. As I had mentioned, installation is easy. The lock comes with two bolt length options. The most significant change to our old lock was the wire that feeds from the front keypad to the rear panel. With the old lock you had a thin wire with a TINY cap that pressed onto a pin on a circuit board on the back. It was incredibly fiddly when you consider that the sprung fastened cap was only about 0.08 inches or 2mm in diameter. In this new lock, it was a simple plastic plug that you just press in and it snaps into place. Sounds trivial but it removed minutes of frustration. After the basic assembly as shown in the first video on the amazon page, you just plug in the included 9 volt battery and follow simple instructions in the manual to program your lock. One nice thing I really like about this lock is that the deadbolt uses a clutch to engage the handle. You use the keypad to engage the clutch that lets the deadbolt work. After a few seconds the clutch is automatically disengaged and the latch spins freely. This makes it fairly tamper proof. In some ways it’s safer than our remote lock because there is less chance of someone trying to hack the lock remotely with some kind of wifi connection. We had our previous one for about five years and still use it on a daily basis. So I can tell you this lock is dependable. If you change the battery once a year you will probably never have to worry about it going flat. So far, I have replaced the battery on the old one every 12 to 18 months regardless of capacity and have used the old one for various electronic devices. These locks can also be opened with a regular key. Two are provided. We keep ours safe in a location where we can retrieve one in an emergency. Originally we bought this lock after a key broke in our old fashioned one. We had to call out a locksmith who spent three hours trying to drill out the old lock. It made a lot of noise, caused us (and our neighbors) a lot of frustration and then (to add insult to injury) cost us almost $300. That’s the price of three of these locks. So we bought this lock and we are so glad we did. It makes life so much easier not having to carry keys around. The keypad is illuminated and easy to use in the dark. You never have to fumble looking for keys. It’s a great addition to our garage and studio because of the number of times you go to the garage on some chore only to find the keys are back at the house. With the studio which is on a wing of the house we used to leave it unlocked because the frustration of going back and forth for keys seemed like a lot of hassle. We really like these locks. You can have several codes. Each member of our family has their own pin. We gave our sister in law one so they could crash even if we aren’t home. And we can create one on a whim should we have contractors or pet sitters visiting when we are away. When they first came out they were about 50% more expensive but they’re affordable now and I can’t recommend them enough. The only problem you might have with this lock is if you pull to close it really helps to have a second handle to grip and hold the door shut while you turn the handle. The twist knob on the deadbolt is not the easiest to grip and pull strongly, especially while twisting at the same time. For the garage and studio door we bought a cheap dummy knob to hold onto for this reason. That does the trick quit nicely.
