Strictly Strings, Bk 1: Violin

A good concept in learning the technique of holding, the violin and placing of fingers on the violin fretboard. Additionally you'll learn a few scales, how to read quarter, half notes, etc. However there is no CD nonetheless I felt from reading many beginner violin books this book utilized an exceptional method to learn from. I highly recommend this book to adults with a real compassion to learn how to play the violin. I don't believe the material is written for children perhaps older than ten years of age but again must have a desire to learn. I have from Amazon purchased some very good videos and books I have no instructor but I can read music which does help. However learning to play the violin is definitely a challenge I believe this one particular book will certainly be one of my favorite. I'm go. to get good use out of it. Remember if your on a self-taught course many learning tools are best and Amazon has many if not all.

Hi, I'd like to recommend this book to anyone who, like me, is starting learn violin or is trying to learn to play by yourselves. It is a great book which guides you step by step into reading music and transforming what at first sounds like a dying cat into the beautiful sounds of the violin.

I'm a violin teacher and I'm always buying these strictly strings violin books on amazon for my students. They are really good, they have a lot of short songs, so students get more variety, instead of working on a long song for many weeks. They help students to read music at the same time as learning violin better than any other violin book I have used. This book also seems to be very usable for children or adults. I definitely suggest this series of books.

My daughter hopes to join a youth symphony so her violin teacher recommended this book because nearly every piece has an accompaniment (in this book, on CD, in a separate accompaniment book). For a few weeks my daughter struggled with the transition to playing duets or with piano accompaniment but now it's natural for her. She isn't ready to audition for the youth symphony yet but I'm confident that when she does, she'll be very comfortable playing in a group.
