An eminent book about the Telomeres, and how they are influenced by our daily life.

By the much interesting information about telomeres which we are getting throughout this book it actually makes it the best one which I until now have read about telomeres. And besides when compared to my books about our daily health, by connecting the lengths of our life to the daily food, alcohol, sleep, smoking, and exercise, it’s also important. As we in Amazon not can look inside the current book, and I, when speculating about ordering it, was wondering how such a new book could be so cheap, and what precisely it contained, and then only having one rather empty recommendation to read, I hereby have put in my recommendation, including the following copy of the book contents lines.CONTENTSvii AcknowledgementsPART ONEThe Telomere the biggest part of Edge: Mastering the Aging Cycle3 The Foundation of Preventive Care11 Welcome to the New Science Aging27 What Are Telomeres?45 Know Your Biomarkers and the Aging ProcessesPART TWOThe Peak Health Program: An Action Plan75 Tune Up Your Diet107 Supplements to Counteract Your Deficiencies131 The Power of Hormone-Replacement Therapy159 Age-Proof Your Lifestyle191 Mental Health211 Putting Your Peak Health Program Together231 Afterword239 Appendix247 Notes263 Sources267 IndexBy these lines it might look like most of the book only has to do with the daily health, but actually through the book anything is connected to the telomeres, that is we see the connection to the things we daily consume, either as food, alcohol, or hormones, and also looking on our sleep and exercise. And concerning vitamin and mineral supplements such as for example omega-3 and Q10, we read about these on some of the sides 115 - 130 under “Top Ten Supplements as Selected by Dr. Shelley Burns”.In the start of the book to realize the difference between the technical and the biological ages, here but not looking on the person’s actual way in living, we learn about a woman whose telomere length actually showed her biologically to be around 78 years old, while her birth certificate showed her only to be 52.And concerning the speculation whether or not our telomeres during life only can be cut shorter, or if they also can grow (like in cancer cells), we on the side 24 read that many animals, as for example lobsters, clams, whales, actually can get their telomerases to lengthen their telomere, and therefore mostly not die by age, but of trauma or infection. And furthermore we read that for the small Leach’s storm petrel birds, their telomeres even are going the opposite way, that is by age increasing in length, and that normally they live longer than 30 years. And we read that many science persons don’t believe that the human beings by nature are meant for having the telomere to automatically shorten by age, and we read that some of the thing we eat and drink actually make the telomere grow. And 2 of the products which now are sold for increasing the length of the telomeres, are mentioned, respectively the TA-65 and Product B, but one of the persons who in 2009 received the Nobel Prize for her telomere work, warns against these, for as she says: “They may activate cancer”.But concerning the telomere and telomerase we in the book are getting good explanation about what they are and how they work together, and with by graph drawings, for nearly all of the personal cases, finding the biological age versus the technical age, and then concluding the reason. This is done by in a x-y coordinate system having the falling continuing line showing the average height (length) for the telomeres during the ages from 10 to 92 years. Thereby from the x line, at the actual age point, putting on, upside down, the length (height) of the measured telomere result, and then see how it meet the average line, and in case nut just fitting the line, then which different biological age the telomere diagram then tells us we are having. So by this measure of the length of the telomeres, we biologically are told if either our lifestyle are, and has been, not good, correct, or better than the normal. And in connection to this result we also have to state how the living have been, and are, by using a lifestyle score result and there give from 0 to 4 points to each of the questions: Diet, Alcohol, Sleep, Smoking history, and Exercise. For Diet a 0 if “Eats well, does not skip meals, eats balanced meals, eats negligible fast food”, and the opposite endpoint 4, if “Skips meals, is a poor eater”. And then best if total being under 6, but still worried if any of the 5 are getting a number higher than 2.And for example in connection to hormones we read about a television reporter who one day in horror contacts Elaine, telling that handfuls of her hairs have started falling off her head, and besides also having acne. She tells that haven’t taken more hormones that previously allowed by Elaine, but it turns out that her female level of the natural steroid hormone DHEA is more than 3 times too high. After this she then has to confess that she by a doctor who she had interviewed had been given “supplements” to keep on looking young; and then this supplement which she had been taking during 6 month turned out to be DHEA (for example used by bodybuilders)! In the book there among other also are interesting writings concerning chronic sicknesses and stress in connecting with the result in faster shortening of the telomeres. But all together, to me it’s a fantastic god and informative book.
