Improve your balance, strength, and overall fitness while enjoying the beauty of Glacier National Park! This dvd has 9 completely different practice sessions, each 8 to 31 minutes long. The practices draw upon the best traditional exercises, tai chi based movements specifically developed to improve balance in older adults, modified yoga poses, and easy dance-based stepping movements. Your balance will be challenged in many different ways to help you move safely with grace and confidence. All movements are taught in mirror image with clear easy-to-follow instructions and demonstrations. All practices are done standing except where indicated. The practices are: Chair-seated practice to gently strengthen your entire body (17 min.) Classic stationary balances performed holding onto a chair for support & seated core-strength work (31 min.) Practical walking balances & dance-based stepping movements to improve your ability to react quickly and improve cardiovascular health, performed using a chair for support (16 min.) More challenging walking & stepping balances, without a chair (18 min.) Leg strength exercises (13 min.) Upper-body seated strength & mobility exercises (12 min.) Lower body stretches (13 min.) Tai Chi easy full-body mobility practice (17 min.) Tai Chi practice with 8 forms, similar to traditional tai chi, but modified to make it easier to learn and to emphasize the balance improving aspects of tai chi (8 min.) Also includes a separate short (3-7 minute) tutorial for learning each of the 8 tai chi forms. Designed and taught by expert instructor Jane Adams. Good balance and a strong body are essential for living an active, independent life and to prevent falls. Jane's goal in producing this was to bring together the most helpful balance & strength exercises for seniors in one affordable dvd. Review: Excellent video for developing strength and flexibility! - Excellent video demonstrating a series of stretching, balance and strength exercises that can be performed in short segments. I can easily follow the instructions, presented slowly and clearly. I love the very beautiful, relaxing Tai Chi movements supplementing the basic balance and strength exercises (with and without weights)Demonstrations a. I wish I had utilized this video exercise program sooner. Love it Review: Great value for the quality of exercises.. - Excellent dvd for balance and strength exercises, especially the elderly. I was always a SERIOUS exerciser, a lot of running. I’m not a natural athlete and had to work hard…one of my few attributes was my balance, it WAS exceptional, but as I got older it deteriorated to the point, that in spite of warning signs, I refused to do any balance exercises, and, inevitably I fell in the street,..I was fortunate that I only broke a small bone in my right hand, still a Major nuisance.. In spite of having almost incredible healing, my hand was pretty much healed in two weeks, a reality check was that recovering my balance was going to be a VERY long road, and I’m not patient.. Nevertheless, Jane’s dvd is exceptional for its clarity and practicality, as well as the sheer number of e excises, from simple to demanding.. I’m 74, and I’m hoping with this dvd I’ll eventually be able to do activities comfortably and safely.. I strongly recommend it.

Simple and effective for those who are far from the athletic end of the gym
If you are trying to rebuild muscle areas that have gotten weak from sitting long hours, and need to be careful of your spinal stenosis (my personal experience), then this is a great DVD for getting started. The movements are not fancy, but they are targeted to strengthen the hips, outer thighs, side core and arms. Good for elderly or anyone who is just beginning to try to rebuild hip, thigh, and core stability. There is no swinging of the arms and twisting of the torso that is bad for spinal stenosis. It's not floor work, just standing and chair if needed. What I learned in PT is how thoughtfully these simple exercises need to be done. Feel every muscle that is engaged. The final routine is a Tai Chi type flow built from the elements practiced in the earlier 12-18 minute sessions. The DVD is older, so there is no handy menu at the beginning that allows you to pick from the intro and the subsequent routines. You have to plow through the intro each time and use the remote to click forward by chapter to the one you want to do. Still, its hard to find exercise routines that are simple and effective for those who are far from the athletic end of the gym.

BALANCE AND STRENGTH HAS ALREADY IMPROVED AND IT IS ENJOYABLE EXCERCISE!
I really do love this exercise DVD. I am a sad case, 66, back fused T10-S1, and very major surgery on my toes, neuropathy in my feet and torn shoulders. Recovery has really compromised my strength and balance. The reviews encouraged me to give this a try and I actually look forward to it. I have had it now a few weeks and I actually WANT to do it 5-6 days a week! It has an introduction to become familiar with the program, and then it is broken into many 12-31 minute workouts. There is a Tai Chi section and a Yoga section that I haven't even looked at yet! So far I vary my routine among the first five workouts, often doing two in one day. They are well narrated so that they are easy to follow. Jane is just doing the routines and the narration is added in so she isn't speaking while doing the exercises. I don't have to listen to the instructional part now, since I know how to do each movement, but I still have the sound on low. There are lots more routines for me to add in as I progress. I am having to do very minor adaptation because of my limitations, mainly in my foot and ankle, but my limitations are improving already!! I often looked like a drunk, walking along stumbling a bit. From the foot surgery my right foot and leg were quite unstable and weak. I had no confidence in my steps and my ankles shook a bit. Forget about balancing on one foot or the other or getting up and down gracefully from a lower seated position. I see such improvement already. I can stand and balance on one foot to put on pants :), I sat down on a second step to visit with someone and didn't have to get hauled up :), and I feel so much more confident as I walk. I don't have to hang on to bannisters and I'm beginning to be able to pick my way through things like uneven surfaces or stairs out in the open. I am a gardener and I also enjoy mild to moderate hiking so we will see how I am this summer. What I am relating here might make this sound like it is just for basket cases. I really don't think so. I am having a hard time categorizing myself as a senior, but I have definitely earned the physically challenged status. I really wish I'd made the effort to find this a few years back, right after the foot surgery, because I probably would have recovered so much stronger. I can see that this routine would be helpful for anyone just naturally loosing their strength and balance as well as physically impaired folks or seniors just experiencing the natural aging process. My advise TRY IT!!!

Being stuck inside for the winter along with the pandemic certainly wasn't going to help this ol girl get into shape or retain mobility. One of my neighbours has been using this CD to learn basic tia chi moves and keep her mobility and, as it is toocoldto meet outside to practice together I thoughtthis might help. It is excellent at explaining the moves, practicing and doing the work out. Good for all levels of mobility as it includes a section on chair excercises too.

We’ve used Jane Adams other DVD’s and she has a nice quiet way of introducing exercises for seniors — not too strenuous and difficult to learn — it’s an excellent DVD many options from which to choose !
