Super cute book about lines and spaces on the music staff
I have loved all of Vicky Weber's books, and this one doesn't disappoint. The cute note characters she has created will be loved by students. As a music teacher, this book will lend itself well to teaching about how notes go up and down the staff, as well as how to work with others and try new things. You could easily sing the along with Step and Skip's adventures on the staff. The graphics are adorable and colorful too, making it a great book for kids to enjoy reading on their own. I plan to use this book with my elementary students 1st grade and up. It will lend itself well to music making and movement as well.

Cute introduction to melodic elements for early elementary
When Step Met Skip is a cute introduction to melodic elements for early elementary students. Most of the movement for the step character is centered on the A-B-C pitches of the treble clef staff which lines up ideally with mi-fa-sol in the key of F, a great choice for elementary students. A fun addition to this story could be the incorporation of baby monster puppets from the puppet company as they look very similar to the characters from the book. Galaxy-style illustrations are sure to appeal to kids and pages are well-paced for participation from a class. Excellent choice for your K-2 music room!

Okay
This is a sweet, beautifully illustrated story about 2 friends making music in different ways. However, it is misleading. Step went up and down the scale hitting every note very deliberately. Skip on the other hand supposedly skipped up and down the notes. The problem I had is that SKIPPING implies you actually SKIP notes (as in going A-C-F. She didn't. She more or less jumped from one note to the other, but she hit every note just as Step did: she didn't skip any notes. I think this would be confusing for children. I also taught music, but when I say for someone to skip, I mean don't hit every note: instead of going from "Do" to "Re" go from "Do" to "Mi."

Simply magical!
This is the perfect book I never knew I needed! The whimsical drawings and adorable story are a great way to introduce and reinforce this concept of steps and skips on the staff to my young beginning piano students, and I look forward to reflecting back to the story with them as we revisit this fundamental skill in reading music. I wish I could go back in time and hand myself this book when I first started teaching! I already know this will be a staple in my lessons from now on!

Perfect for Beginning Music Students
This adorable little story about two music notes doing what they love is sure to be a hit with beginning music students. Research shows that stories are an effective method for remembering factual information. Through the power of storytelling, Weber has once again created a valuable resource that music teachers will love! Serving as an excellent introduction to the concept of half steps, whole steps, and chord building, 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘔𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘬𝘪𝘱 is perfect for any beginning music student—but any child would enjoy this story, musician or not.

Perfect for an El Music Class
This book would be a perfect way to explain to early elementary students the notes on the staff! I love this book for it’s cute animations and it’s humanization of notes, which really helps kids understand that music can change shape and directions, just like you or I.

Great story
My students loved this story from grade 2-7. My only complaint is I don't like that the characters are gendered and it's the boy who saves the girl.

Great introduction to musical concept
As a primary music teacher, this book is a lovely gentle introduction to the concept of a musical score and how these notes are represented in a visual form. The book helped prompt lots of discussion between my classes and helped to illustrate the concept to the visual learners. Another create concept from Vicky Weber.

My Yr 1/2s Loved This Book
We would like to see Skip doing larger skips, rather than always 3rds. Thanks for a fun book and activity!

Perfect, MUST HAVE book for Music Teachers!
This is the best book I have read about steps and skips on the Staff! Vicky Weber is so amazing at bringing her characters to life💙 I can imagine all my little students following along with the notes Stepping and Skipping and understanding exactly what the two concepts are, how they look, and how they sound. I especially loved the harmonic ending!
