The steel is the best part you will want diamond sharpener Arkansas stone will do the job but takes forever knife arrived razor sharp and holds an edge really well can’t say enough good about this knife

I’ve used Buck products for decades, one Buck knife at our hunt camp is being used by the fourth generation. Use this for skinning 2 deer this year and the blade chipped must of been from running it across a bone. Good knife great quality blade material isn’t the best.

I just ordered this knife, what you may not know is that the blade material changes when you change the handle material. The cheap version of this knife with the black handle has 420HC steel, a cheap budget blade steel. The cocobolo wood handle has D2 steel, much more superior to 420HC. If you move up to this micarta handle you get S35VN steel, considered a high end steel, even better than D2. Chose your handle material wisely as the rest of the knife changes too.
