Q: Will it work in an hp elitebook 2540p?

Not as a direct snap in replacement in the OEM spot. That is a 1.8 inch drive, you can buy a cd/dvd delete mount and simply replace the optical drive with this. Insure you buy the 9.5mm mount for it and be prepared to swap the small mounting tabs off your cd/dvd mount onto one you buy. It is these mounting tabs (right side and end of device) that allow you to side new mount/ssd drive into the bay and secure it down with the same 2 screws you have to take out to remove OEM optical drive. Make sure your device recognizes this new drive “mounts it” and assigns it a drive letter. Doing a video on the complete makeover and mods I’ve done and am doing on (2) 2540p i7 laptops. For the coin you spend picking these old units up you can really ramp them up into screamers relatively cheap. Mind blowing fast for their age running Linux. Couple of tips, if you are thinking of upping ram, hdd swaps, adding usb 3 options here’s some free knowledge, the 2540p will take any combination of memory sticks up to 8gb so you can mismatch gb memory sticks and come up with really random numbers like total system ram values of 2, 3, 5, 6, or 8 gb total. Be sure you install ddr3 lower density memory or it wont recognize them and wont boot. When it comes to ssd drives, traditional installs are meh.. go big or go home and always buy the best quality drives you can afford. Simply Nick

Possibly but the easiest way is to take the back off and simply look. Don’t touch any, just look. Simple steps, one at a time. Don’t take answers as fact until you investigate and learn.

I changed out the hd on my Toshiba Qosmio without any issues. I would double-check the specs on the Satellite.
