More Compressed than I thought.
Purchased the 3.3 lb block. As far as sphagnum goes, I've purchased a brand that came in a 1.2 lb block. One that came in a 2.2 lb block, same brand as this, as well as this; 3.3 lb block. The original block, different brand, was excellent. Long fibers, low bits and pieces good color and fluffy.Of this brand the 2.2 lb bale came in a 15-in (ish) by 15 in (ish) by 6-8" block. This bale, containing 10 or so more quarts and another lb of sphagnum is actually compressed to less than half of the size of that. The block itself was probably 8x8x10 or something, going off memory. The benefit to the 2.2 lb block, it wasn't overly compressed so it was easy to pull moss off in sheets About a quarter of that block would do three to four of the moss poles I do. When naturally decompressed, it would fluff easily and remain in Long fibers. It DID have quite a lot of the smaller bits, many more than previous. I just use those in my mixes that need high water retention. It had a good smell but did have several sticks and pieces of plastic twine. I would recommend it.At time of writing originally, I had not broken into this one yet, but since editing, but it appears VERY compressed. It's not necessarily true the first block I bought was fairly compressed as well, not as compressed as this but it was more compressed in the previous block, and that block actually had less of the little bits and the broken strands then the block of this brand, That was less compacted. All in all, the fibers were all average at least three plus inches, so I think it worked out. It does compress a bit more than the previous batch. I don't like to use the little bits as they will come out through the holes in the moss pole, so I tend to kind of wad them in with the longer strands and stuff then in the middle, or again, use in soil.I've actually used all the block now, and am getting more. When allowed to expand, there is physically more sphagnum there, but it's not as fluffy, and it has more fines and broken stuff. I'm torn. I don't know if the increase makes up for it, and since the stuff is a bit finer., It'll compact a bit more, and is easier to over pack the poles, but not a lot, so in the end you really still only get a bit more. I have started adding bark to my moss poles to add something hard for roots to wrap into and onto, that takes up space and helps airate. Now I see they have a 4.4 lb block. I'm worried it's just as compressed. When you over compress this stuff you lose volume. It gets smaller and packs more.

Very happy
So nice. It is compact, so easy to store and just break off amount needed. Fluffs up really well. Perfect for my uses.

Compacted
It works well so far, but it was rather hard to break apart at first.

Nice quality and great value
It comes very dry, hard, and compact. Wet it down and it will increase in size exponentially and get nice and soft and fluffy.

Good quality, small bag goes far.
Needed this to mix with perlite to repot my pitcher plants. After cutting and fluffing i used about 1/3 of the bag. Looks fresh & is very compact. After adding water that third of the bag expanded enough to fill a gallon bucket half full. Happy with purchase.

Not the greatest quality
The mouse has an odd smell to it and has lots of roots and twigs mixed through throughout. I honestly honestly wish I opted for a bit higher price for a better quality. But for filling a bunch of moss poles, it was a good find. The color is also very pale green compared to other moss I’ve used.

Great to top orchid bark
I mixed small pieces with orchid bark, then topped the bark to help retain water. It seems to boost growth and flowering. Even though a little produce a large volume when moist, I'm purchasing more to help retain moisture on indoor and outdoor plants
