Q: Are the inside walls vertical all the way to the bottom of the container, or is there an "undercut" below the threads where the inside widens?

The inside walls are straight, not undercut.

Q: are these leak-proof? safe for carrying an oily product in one's pocket?

NO! They definitely are not leak proof. I found out the hard way; storing deep black Indian ink only to have it leak all over my clothes, floor, hands. I ended up using them to store pills, vitamins, earrings, etc., but could not use them for storing anything liquid or thin lotions.

Q: Can these jars be screwed together?

If you mean connecting each jar to another, like a stack, then no. Only the lids screw onto the jars but the jars remain individual.
