This is easily one of the best of these ready to eat tuna mixes I’ve had. The flavour is the big difference. It almost tastes aged and smoky, a bit like tuna jerky but still moist, not watery or mushy. It’s not fishy at all, which is what usually puts me off brands like John West. This one actually tastes deliberate rather than just tuna with stuff mixed in. The Mexican-style flavour works really well without being overpowering. It’s also one of the few things like this that doesn’t stand out in a work canteen, which matters more than it probably should. I’m genuinely happy eating this regularly and could easily have it multiple times a week. Not the cheapest, but the quality is there and it feels like proper food rather than a compromise.

I never thought I was a tuna fan until I had rio mare. I don't know what it is about this brand that makes it different from others, but these little tuna-based salads are insanely good. Like every single variety they make! While it's absolutely delicious just eaten straight out of the can, I like to toast up a couple pieces of bread and make myself a rio mare insalatissime sandwich. Oh my god. It's so good.
