I spent the past week filling in low spots and leveling the back yard with 5 yards of topsoil. It was a lot of work hauling the dirt up 5 steps but a motorized wheelbarrow was expensive but a great help. After all that effort and expense I chose a quality Pennington grass seed and Scotts Starter Fertilizer. A combination that has worked well for me in the past.

Very good product! Significantly improved the growth of new seed after concrete work required new grass seeding adjacent to the completed project. Grass grew very quickly and filled in fast. Seeds began sprouting within a week and area is greening up nicely as well even with very high temperatures and humidity. Be certain to follow all instructions and keep seeded area moist for best results…

I had planted some grass seed, covered it with an 3/4 inch of soil, to patch a bare area. I watered it 3 times daily and the grass seed was so slow to grow. After about 7 days I was getting concerned so I bought this Scott's starter fertilizer and scattered some on top of the planted area, this was about 11am. I watered before dusk. The next morning I noticed grass starting to pop up. I watered again and by 5pm I had grass growing up to 3/4 inch. Almost like a miracle. So my opinion is this starter fertilizer works very well and based on what I have seen I would not plant grass seed without adding it from day one.
