Fun! Contrast to Learning From the Internet.
I actually REALLY love this book! I tried to refund it after making a sudden impulse buy, but when I received it, I ended up keeping it.Super informative, and it also comes with an app where you can scan the page and it plays helpful videos. I personally have a hard time learning from books because there usually isn't enough visual aid. But the explanation videos are incredibly helpful, and make it a worthwhile purchase compared to other books on Amazon. If you're debating about learning between a book, or free from the internet, I say ONLY buy this book if you're stuck and learning from the internet isn't helping. Too many times I'll buy a new art book just for it to gather dust and look cool on a shelf, lol.I bought mine used and it came in practically looking brand new.

Perfect Book for Learning to Sketch in Perspective with Precision!
So I don't normally leave reviews, but as an artist myself who intends on becoming a concept artist, I felt that I am reasonably competent to tell you what you can expect from this book and why its a great start for not only those who want to level up their sketching but also for those who have ambitions to break into an art / design focused industry. This book teaches you to sketch methodically like a 3D modeler. Except instead of pushing a button to drop a cube with a mesh on your screen.. you have to draw all that construction yourself. But the better you are, the less construction you need to draw as your visualization skills will get better. So first things first, what is the skill level? Well there are 10 chapters in this book. First one covers materials and tools; generally paper and pencil (with rulers and guides). But I also do a lot of drawing digitally, so I have learned how to use the book to learn and understand drawing techniques regardless of what I am using fairly easily. So even if you don't have all the tools and you literally only have a pencil and paper, you'll be fine. There are drills artists can do to draw straighter lines and better circles/ellipses freehand. WITH THAT ASIDE, I would say the first few chapters are the easy yet practical stuff. The book is setup in a way where as long as you can do one chapter's techniques with competence, you will be able to utilize it later on. The middle chapters deal with creating 3D forms in perspective and manipulating them. The later chapters will deal with environments and both aerial and wheeled vehicles. So I'd say the book is great to get for anyone of any skill level. It also comes with a URL to go to Scott Robinsons website and view tutorial videos he made to go along with the book. Super helpful when you want to see how something is done in real time.Who will this benefit? This can benefit anyone BUT if I had to narrow it down to career choices, It would benefit your designer careers the most. This could be architects, concept artists, industrial designers... if your trying to design objects and then draw those objects in perspective, this book is essentially providing you with the tools to do it. (Something to note about concept art, its not all just production paintings. The sketches are sort of the unsung heroes of the job. That's where the ideas and designs come from.)Final thoughts: I found the book very helpful so far. I was always good at the "rendering" portion of my art.. painting in the materials. But I always found my sketching foundation lacking despite having experience drawing ever since I was in grade school. This book teaches you to draw things with near precision, using lines and intersections already drawn to know where your next mark on the page/canvas should go next. It teaches a method of perspective without vanishing points. This is the perfect start to learn how to draw like a professional. It's always something you can go back to. And its worth noting that Scott Robertson does have a youtube channel! So you can check out a few sample video tutorials from the book to see what you are getting into, but also you can check out how he draws/sketches! You'll notice he loves vehicles. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase and can already feel the techniques I am learning from this book to be filling in the gaps which is helping me make myself a better artist. This book really does address drawing like the craft it is!
