A Kids' Guide to Hamilton the Musical

This was a great book not only for children, but also for adults. I read it prior to seeing the play and it helped in following the story on stage. I have loaned it to two friends who also agreed. It is organized well and gives the needed information as well as giving information on what might not be accurate.

I am 77 years old and about to see the Broadway show of Hamilton. I had heard so many mixed reviews that I was concerned about understanding the rap songs. This book was quick, read in a ne day, and very interesting. I am more than ready for the show now. Thanks to the author. I will now read this to my grandchildren (9&10) next time they spend the night

My 7 year old loved this book and so did we! If your child is asking a lot of questions about the Hamilton songs and language, this is a great age-appropriate explanation of each song with historical footnotes to boot.

I couldn’t be more thrilled w/this book for my 10 yo. She is the type of kid that is asking questions “Nonstop!” throughout movies, so I told her I wouldn’t take her to see Ham until she read this book. She found the book interesting and was eager to keep reading and I am blown away by not only how well it explains the story, but that she makes footnotes and vocabulary definitions. The chapters are short giving my daughter a sense of accomplishment and mirror right along w/each song. The only criticism is that it is extraordinarily hard to read and not sing alongside! But I do play each song after she reads the chapters to allow her to relate and be able to make the connection of what she read to the portrayal. Highlyhighly recommend. Superbly done.

My granddaughter is reading this and is enjoying it. We're going to see Hamilton soon and she's getting more excited as she learns more about the story. Great for 10+ kids.

I got this for my mother and law and I to read before seeing Hamilton. No we are not children but, I just wanted to quick read on the background of the musical and this was great. I was worried that she wouldn't be able to follow along with all the fast paced music and whispered to each other several times during the show how helpful this book was. It took me about 3 hours to read and was actually way more interesting than I thought it would be!

My 9 year old daughter and I are avid Hamilton fans. I originally bought this book for her. We read it and loved it - it helped me explain some of the bigger historical events in simple kid language.My sister recently bought tickets for my parents to see the show. They are 75 and don’t listen to any hip hop or rap, let alone any Hamilton songs. I wanted them to get as much as they could out of the show so I sent them this book. They both read it and loved it. They are excited to see the show in a week. They have been raving about it. Great work!

This was the perfect little book to renew my knowledge of Hamilton before going to the performance. It's written for kids but it was just the "quick read" that I needed. Loved the side notes and references. A great pre-read for anyone going to see Hamilton: The Musical.

My 9yo daughter loves this book! She read it to get background on the musical before we watch it together. After completing the book she has enjoyed going back and reading through several parts of the book. Highly recommend!

If, like me you enjoyed Hamilton the musical, those book will give you further insight into a lot of what is going on in the show.It also highlights many of the inaccuracies of the show. Sadly these may replace the truth in people’s understanding of history.
