Big Ol' Water Jug
I like this jug and my chickens do to. They haven't said as much in words, but I can tell by their expressions. No, not even that. My little feathered dinosaurs took right to it (within a day or so), and it's been their sole source of watering ever since (about 2 months). What I like most about it is that it's easy to disassemble, clean, reassemble, refill, and we don't have to fill it back up except once a week. We keep the drinking tray a few inches above the coop floor so that debris doesn't get in the tray (the girls are not the neatest). We also bought this in conjunction with the Harris Farms Heated Poultry Drinker Base. As I type this, it is sleeting outside, and the water in the tray and bottle is still... well, water. It hasn't frozen yet. Two months in and I'm happy with the purchase!

UPDATE: It actually does work. It seems like this should have worked great ....
UPDATE: After reading a few reviews about tightening the cap, I thought I would try that before sending it back. After 5 days of tightening the cap, things seem MUCH better. I was tightening it before, but now I give it a little "extra" tug and that seems to have done the trick. The water is not coming out anymore.QUESTION: Has anyone tried painting the container black? I ask because of the algae build-up. If there is less light coming algae will not grow - at least that is my theory? Anyone know about this?I initially really liked the idea of this product... handles, fill from the top. Seemed like the perfect waterer for my chickens. The first one I received had a flat side on the part that holds the water. I was sent another. I have had problems on and off with keeping water in this. I have leveled the area where it sits 6 times. Put a number of different things under it, hoping that would work. In the end, the water is not staying in the container. Initially when I fill it, things seem okay but when I come back a few hours or more later, it is empty which is not right. The only conclusion I can come to is there is a leak somewhere. I have looked but have not been able to find a leak. I hate to rate this product so poorly as I really did like it but I just cannot get this to work. And, I cannot run the risk of having no water for the chickens in the middle of summer. I am going to have to find an alternative.Anyone have any suggestions before I chop this thing up out of frustration?

I haven't had any leaking problems with this unit when ...
I haven't had any leaking problems with this unit when used/filled properly. A full tank will last my 6 chickens a week in the winter. Speaking of winter, I used to use galvanized waterers (Miller 9835 5-Gallon Galvanized Poultry Fountain) so I could sit them on a heater (Farm Innovators Heated Base For Metal Poultry Founts Model HP-125, 125-Watt). I couldn't believe how much I spent on it just to see it corrode and rust so I could throw it away after the first season. This was an experiment with a plastic tank. My heater sits on cinder blocks for height. It's regulated by a temperature sensitive on/off plugin. I put a ceramic 16x16 (about 1/4" thick) ceramic tile piece on the top of the heater as a barrier between the heater and the plastic tank. No problems at all! Just need to make sure the fountain is level. It's been 0 degrees outside, and barely any freezing in the waterer, and no damage. I would definitely buy again, but at this rate, I don't anticipate that happening for at least a few years.

Lasts a long time
I bought this fount for watering my dozen chickens while gone out of town. While it took a while to get used to, at this point I really like it. I can go almost a week without hauling water down to the coop now. It works fine on the heater and have only seen a little ice once when the level got low. We live at 9100 ft in Colorado. so it gets cold here. I just put the fount directly on the electric heater and have had no problems. The only thing that could be improved upon is the valve that you close to fill the fount is submerged and you get your fingers wet to close it. Some kind of actuator would help.

Need water for chickens - No Problem
Easy to install, easy to fill, easy to clean, easy to tell how much water is leftInstall on 4" tall 12" x 12" concrete block placed on level ground. Just the right height and size.Filling - Just need to ensure gray slide is high enough to cover the O-ring on the outlet Open top lid, pour in water, wet the rubber gasket, ensure it is seated and snug down the lid Push down the gray slide on the outlet to let water into tray- water should make a noisy gurgle and bubbles should rise, if not, the rubber gasket is not sealed and leaking air- close slide and try re-seating gasketCleaning - ensure gray slide is high enough to cover the O-ring to prevent water fron entering the tray while you clean itIf you are able, tip fount over on side and wipe clean with one of those small foam brushes about 3" across. If fount is too heavy to tip over, use kid's pool water squirter to suck up water and debri and wipe down to remove any slim.Transparent fount makes it easy to track water useageI have two of these and my 84 year old mother-in-law has no problem filling and cleaning these fountsHighly recommend them.

Best waterer I have ever used.
This is by far the easiest top fill chicken waterer I have ever used. The design is superior to any others available currently and easier to clean and keep clean. I have a small flock and this will keep them well watered for a few days at a time. Because of its capacity I use a 2 gallon watering can or hose to fill it and leave it in place. The water stays cleaner longer. It is certainly the easiest one to clean I have ever used having smooth sides without a lot of nooks and bends to clean around. I highly recommend this product above all others available at this time.

Great for the hens!
This is huge and wonderful for my hens! There is plenty of room all the way around for them to all drink at the same time. When I first put it out, they acted like they were patched and drank over and over! You have to be sure to keep the sealing ring on it but it works perfectly!

why the price hack?
Bought this for 18.95...is an excellent waterer and wanted to order a few more...but right away they are jacked well over 100$??? As soon as the chicken craze kicks in the cost of supplies are jacked 400% ...not affordable nor worth that price.
