I literally changed my monthly order subscription to a more affordableMilk Thistle supplement, even though I believe in the quality of this product. Unfortunately this item is just too expensive and not sustainable in the long run.

My dog, an 18 pound Shi Tzu, had high liver enzyme tests from too many years on steroids for his allergies . His ALT was 1365! He wasn't eating and was losing weight. The vet prescribed Denamarin which didn't help much as he was pooping out the pills. Pooping out $36 a month pills?! He still didn't want to eat and I resigned myself to the fact that my dog was dying. Thinking that maybe if he wasn't excreting his medication it might extend his life a little, I started doing some research. The main ingredient in Denamarin is a derivative of milk thistle. I found out that phosphatidylcholine makes milk thistle more absorbable. Maximum Milk Thistle by Natural Wellness has both. At first I had to shove the pills, coated in cream cheese, down my dog's throat because he wouldn't eat, however, now that he feels better he takes them willingly (coated in cream cheese) every morning a half an hour before his breakfast. Last time his liver enzymes were checked his ALT was dow to 553 after three months on the Maximum Milk Thistle! He has regained the weight he lost and is back to acting like his old self. I am so grateful. Besides working better than the vet prescribed medication it is a 1/3 of the cost, and those of you with allergic aging pets can relate. Next time he gets his liver enzymes tested I will post an update. My dog has been on the Maximum Milk Thistle for 7 months now. I was not compensated for this review in any manner!! Even family members have commented that they can see he is feeling better.

Taking Milk Thistle may be beneficial for many, but recent studies have demonstrated that it works in a two-phase response of cells to silymarin. The first phase is a rapid increase in expression of genes associated with cellular stress, followed by a longer-term, more sustained suppression of gene expression associated with inflammation. The researchers performed the work in both human liver- and T-cell lines. So, at first it activates cellular stress and for me that means (still doing this), abdominal and joint pain (all over my body). With all the research I have read, I cannot find the time (temporal change) it takes to go to phase two. I understand it probably is a few weeks or less, but this pain is too much to bear, and I am only trying to do a short detox for overall blood tests, including liver, since I usually have a few beers each night, but nothing heavy and no diagnosis, ever, of liver disease or hep. So, for me, I will just not drink beer but need to stop taking these. Please do your own research before taking--I should have as I am an academic and try to read as much as I can, both peer reviewed scientific studies and what people write about their own experiences. In short, I am sure the product is top notch. But please beware and read how it might work for you.

This product tastes great and I plan on reordering it when I get close to running out. HOWEVER, if you are unfamiliar with it, be aware that it does NOT dissolve readily. Not only that, but if it sticks to the side of your cup or glass or thermos or whatever, it is close to impossible to remove.

Second time I purchased. Agreed with me. No negative interaction with my transplanted live.
