Great addition to the house
The short version: We decided to invest in a robot hoover after we found ourselves sweeping or vacuuming dog hair every single day. And what an absolutely amazing purchase. Highly recommended! The longer version. We have two dogs. One malts, the other one not so much, but even then they both walk things into the house. We also have kids who like to get as much of their breakfast/lunch/whatever on the floor as possible. So it's a constant battle against pets and kids to keep the floors clean and we are both working. This wasn't an easy decision because this bit of kit comes with a pretty hefty price-tag so it was a decision that took a month or so. In the end we decided to take the plunge because the dog hair tumbleweed situation was just not getting any better. The robot hoover itself is incredibly effective. We no longer have a dog hair problem!! And we now even encourage the kids to sweep crumbs onto the floor after breakfast ready for BB8 (yep, that's the name of our Roomba) to do the scheduled clean. Mapping out the rooms is really very easy. I say this, I downloaded the app (iOS) and it's all very self-explanatory. BB8 went around the floor in every single room and presented me with a floor plan (a digital one, in the app). I created the boundaries for each room and assigned them a label: kitchen, hall, lounge etc. Because BB8 has wi-fi integration it's really very easy to add to Google Home, which we have done. We can now ask BB8 to hoover the kitchen or another room or indeed the whole of the ground floor via our Google assistant. This is incredibly cool. BB8 does a daily run around the house every morning and a sweep through the kitchen in the evening. I've had to clean the brushes a couple of times and I've emptied the hoover bag about 3 times. The suction is VERY effective and the Roomba unit is actually pretty intelligent, weaving in and out of the dining room chairs, feeling it's way along skirting boards and then taking itself back to the base unit to charge up and empty the onboard vacuum chamber. Would I buy another one? In a heartbeat. In fact, we're considering moving this one upstairs and buying one that has a mop!! I never thought I'd be one of those folks who owned a robot vacuum, it just seems so privileged and, quite frankly, for people who had more money than sense but we are totally converted. I will say that it might be a totally different experience if we didn't buy one with a base station (where the stuff gets transferred from the unit to the bigger hoover bag). We would be forever pulling dog hair out of the thing, multiple times a day I daresay, so our experience is based upon the Roomba with the big base station. Which is awesome. 10/10. Actually, 9/10 because it can't climb the stairs.

Great addition to the household, wouldn't be without it now
I'm a bit late to the robo-vac party, but have toyed with the idea for some time - when I saw the self emptying model (I7+) on Black Friday, I finally pulled the trigger on buying one. I followed some tips online before setting up by running 2 mapping runs (with a clear floor, to aid it in mapping the areas properly) without the vacuum actually running, this was good advice and made the mapping process relatively painless (and much faster), the map it created was very good and it was a simple process to divide it up into individual rooms. The i7 is a few years old now and lacks the newer features such as LIDAR, but for me that's a fairly incremental benefit in the real world, the i7 knows Its way around (and has a camera to aid it in identifying whereabouts it is on the map, not for object avoidance) and it performs brilliantly, cleaning each room methodically and thoroughly. The ability to clean a particular room on its own is a very handy feature for post meal-prep-cleanup (OK G... Clean the kitchen), or post-meal-consumption (OK G... Clean kids zone) (zones being areas you can add to any place on the map, so you can have zones in front of the sofa (or wherever), so rather than needing to clean an entire room, you can localise it right down to where the [regular] mess occurs. Its object avoidance follows a very clever algorithm and seems to navigate around random objects (and dogs) very effectively, cleaning as much as possible. Overall it's made a marked improvement on the cleanliness of the carpets - my wife is a bit of a clean-freak and she is also impressed with the results (it's reduced the vacuuming routine down from daily to almost nothing), it really keeps on top of the dog hair and leaves the rooms feeling nice and clean. Scores a high WAF (Wife Approval Factor), so we're both very happy with the purchase. In terms of maintenance, I clean the filter (tap it out) and rollers once a week (to remove hair etc), this only takes a few minutes and keeps it running well. Highly recommended.

Life changingly good (also fun).
I love my Roomba (Marjorie). I hate hoovering and I adore the fact that I can send her out to do the job even when I’m not home. Pretty good dirt & dust pick up, though better on carpets than wood floors. But still pretty effective, even on the latter. She occasionally gets stuck under the sofa, but hopefully she will soon learn not to go to that particular spot. There are only two downsides: (1) Like the Daleks, Marjorie can’t climb stairs, so her plans for world domination are restricted to the floor I set her up on (this may be a good thing if she develops super intelligence and tries to take over my house). (2) My cat hates her and also hates wearing clothes, so I have no chance of making cool videos of a cat wearing a shark suit riding the Roomba.

DO NOT BUY AN IROBOT!!! Avoid this brand at all costs!!!
We purchased one of these last Christmas and it self destructed. Apparently there is a sensor on the top of this unit that is NOT covered under warranty, which is quite strange because it does not say anywhere in the warranty documentation that it is not covered. It seems it hit the bottom of our coffee table and took off the top of this sensor and the bottom part of the sensor fell into the unit so it will not go back to its base, it looks like it will but then it behaves like it is drunk and drives off the edge of the base and gets stuck. Anyway, after a bunch of emails to iRobot, who were I have to say were less than useless, they said this is not covered under warranty, I asked why not because up until the time we noticed the device had broken it had not been touched by us as it is a robot! Therefore had destroyed itself, which I would have thought being a robot it would have been programmed not to do! This is a very expensive toy to have it break itself AND then not to be covered under warranty! And it did not clean that well anyway. iRobot are all hype and no substance!! Avoid this brand at all costs!!!!!

The day I bought this robot vacuum cleaner my friends were surprised by the cost and had a question does it worth for the amount i paid. Now that I have used the unit for a month I can say that its doing an amazing job. Now my worries to get a servant maid to clean our house of size 5500 sq.ft is solved. Hopefully in two years time I think I would recover the cost. A few minor suggestions. Instead of disposable dust bag, they should provide reusable and easy to clean plastic box. with the sliding fixed on it. I saw some you tube video regarding how to easily make one. Overall i am happy

I love my little Roomba. It's easily the best thing I bought for the house during the pandemic. I can have it clean my entire house while I'm working, and I just get to "come home" at the end of the day to a clean space, which honestly does relieve some of the tedium/sameness of this pandemic existence. Also, I have two cats and always, always have cat fur tumbleweeds no matter what...until now. I just run Roomba a couple times a week and they are gone forever. (Although my cats do prefer to sleep during cleaning, not jump on the Roomba and ride around surveying their kingdom, which is a definite let down.) It sounds like a quiet normal vacuum, basically like a loud fan, so when it's in other rooms it is quiet enough to tune out while I work. I run it in my home office while I'm eating lunch elsewhere, though, because it is loud enough to distract me if I'm on a call so I programmed an "everything but the office" setting for daily use. I'm easily amused, so I love telling Alexa to have it clean, it's like living in the future, and I even enjoy telling it what a clever little robot it is whenever I watch it successfully navigate around a chair or other thing that isn't where it usually is. It's like a pet in reverse, it cleans up messes and never wakes me up early when it wants its breakfast! If you are, like me, a lazy pet owner stuck at home who likes to anthropomorphize inanimate objects and do other things than chores in the evening, it's well worth the (admittedly eye-watering) price.
