BELLRevolution MIPS Bike Helmet

mips helmet for cheap. Obviously cheap.
Our kids' heads are important. This helmet is a cheap mips helmet. I wanted a mips helmet for comfort and safety, but can't afford $100+ as I have 5 kids. We've had other Bell helmets that have been solid. This one has such a thin loose plastic shell that I'm nervous about using it. The shell is actually loose. There is no way this helmet will hold together for a mountain bike trip. I guess I'm going to have to return it and order a more expensive helmet.

Seems like a very good product so far
PROS:Able to adjust to my head (size about 7-1/8") comfortablyDoes not seem to interfere with hearingStrap seems comfortableCONS:PriceOnly reason to buy this helmet is that extra margin of safety if I fall a certain way within a certain range of impact force. If it's a lesser crash I would probably have been fine with a normal helmet. Above a certain speed, even this helmet probably won't help me.But, I got a newer bike and my head is worth it, so what the hell. My new bike is also a different color than my old helmet so there's that.SUGGESTION FOR ALL BIKE HELMETS:Would be cool to have a way to mount a bluetooth mouthpiece to the strap or visor where it would be protected from wind. In other words, make a quiet spot for an intercom to mount. Sort of a little wind protected bracket.

Somewhat disappointed
The fit was perfect, and I was happy it had MIPS at the $35 price point. However, it arrived with a manufacturing defect. The visor was too short on one side so the hook at the end would not sit within the ventilation opening, and was left sticking out freely to the side. The materials were fairly good quality and it felt like other good Bell helmets I have owned. However, I was disappointed with the thin plastic skin covering the shell as it was glued on in a very few places and will likely tear off just by brushing against objects when carrying it around. I see others have commented on this too. In 2021 even helmets costing half as much as this one use more modern techniques to fuse the coating onto the shell. Apparently, Bell actually developed the technique so I was surprised it wasn’t used in this helmet. The fit was so good, I have been looking for other Bell helmets but there aren’t many in the 57 mm range. I do not personally like the idea of a huge shell with a universal fit tightening knob for those at the lower end of the size range. Will keep looking.

Strange plastic liner entangles daughter's hair
Bought this bike helmet for my daughter, because I had read that Bell helmets ran wider at the center point than Giro's. Sure enough, it was 3/8" wider and it made all the difference. Also, the back portion of the helmet was thicker and better than Giro's higher-end model. But then, when my daughter wanted to take it off after an hour bike ride, her hair became tangled in the hooks that links the strange plastic lining that Bell to the inner foam body of the helmet. And I can't readily remove the lining, because the snaggy plastic links would still be there and the main foam bumpers are on top of lining. (And, continuing the strange design, the outer layer is also simply attached plastic rather than being bonded to the main helmet body as it has been for all her other helmets. ) I know Bell is a good company, but this helmet is nonfunctional, at least for someone with long hair.

Small
Ordered this for my 9 yr old daughter. The helmet size says 5 y/o+ but if you kid doesn't have a smaller head it won't fit them for long. Luckily she is small, so this helmet will fit her this year and maybe next, but definitely not after that. The helmet is small in size, not just the fit. Bought this for the added protection of the MiPS feature but the shell on the helmet is simply cheap plastic stuck on. Overall the helmet will work fine, but it does feel cheaply made and came with a sticker on it that said the price was $12.99, which is definitely NOT the $49.99 I paid for it, so that's pretty disappointing to say the least. I was tempted to send it back, but for the amount of time it would take to send it back and then get something new delivered my daughter wouldn't be able to ride her bike and, frankly, her happiness is more important than $37...

Pulls out hair—painful!
Inside tabs pull out my daughter’s hair in chunks. There are four round tabs on the inside of the helmet that hold the inner plastic in place. Hair easily wraps around these tabs as the helmet is worn and upon taking the helmet off, the hair gets pulled out of my daughter’s head! It’s a horrible design.

Dial fit feature broke within days
The dial fit button locked up within days; fell off a few days after that. Overall the product seemed pretty good though. I might have gotten a lemon. I came here to return it only to find that I missed the return date by a few days.

Cheaper Price Equals Cheaper Material?
Bell is known for making superior and safe products which is why I selected this helmet for my son. The adjustable interior makes for the ultimate fit and provide superior protection. My problem came with the cheap material used for the visor as it ripped off after one fall.I understand that the plastic visor is not designed to survive numerous direct blows but breaking off after one small bump is deficient.
