I bought these scalloped pinking shears because a friend had them, these are a little bit smaller on the cut size which I actually like better. The handles are a little clunky to use and I put added oil to the opening area and wiped it clean with paper towel because they’re very hard to open and close. Her used scissors were much easier, probably because they’ve been used. I’ve got some nicer pinking shears that I use for seams, and I wanted this for its decorative look. I’ve been doing origami from fabric, specifically butterflies with one edge cut (videos on YouTube) for a rounded wing tip and they look very nice with the scallop edge, basically a series of half circles not the zigzag. Any origami could actually be done with fabric by stitching along the edge And pinking the edge. (Batik is my favorite fabric for this. It doesn’t fray as easily). Alternately one can stitch two squares together and leave an opening, turn them, iron them flat and then do a decorative stitch without the need for pinking the edge before folding into your origami shape. I think the scalloped edge adds a nice finished touch and is a little faster, these were not an expensive item. I love it. They come in different sizes, seems pretty cool. I got the 5 mm which is about an eighth of an inch, and the 7 mm also looks nice which is slightly bigger—the size my friend has. For the purposes I am using them for, those are probably the optimal sizes.

Nice shears that handle well and cut smoothly, creating a lovely scalloped edge. I needed to resize a blanket quickly and didn't have time to bind the edges, so I used these scalloping shears instead. The effect is decorative, and the shears cut cleanly.
