Prang Gallery Ambrite Paper Chalk, Colored Chalk for Use on Wet or Dry Paper, Tapered, Assorted Colors, (53012), Multicolored, 12 Count (Pack of 1)

These are wonderful, soft, almost buttery feeling chalks. They feel and color very similarly to Mercurius chalks (often sold in Waldorf school supply shops), but are thinner sticks.They are wonderful for blackboard art! They are very vibrant, and blend easily. For blackboard *writing* I prefer a harder stick chalk (Prang, Crayola, etc) but for blackboard *art*, these are perfect.A few arrived broken, but this wasn't a problem for me, as we usually snap our art chalks anyhow. I find chalk chunks are just easier to use on a mounted blackboard than long sticks.I'm using a porcelain black board and haven't had any staining issues. (Yet!)

Love the vibrant colors! A few pieces came broken but it does not affect use. We've only used them on art paper so far but it spreads nicely with your finger if you want a "watercolor" look. I purchased the small package but now I wish I would have purchased the larger one. Will do when these run out!Edited to add: They work better when broken. I ended up breaking them all on purpose. I have also used them on a chalkboard since I posted this review and they work great (though not as vibrant as they are on paper.) What a great price for this! Pieces were broken but what do you expect? It’s chalk, it’s going to break no matter what! The colors are great. There is a wide assortment. I used them on paper and stretch canvas. Spraying hairspray on the art work helps from smudging

This chalk is beautiful and vibrant in color, much more so than any other chalk I've used. That said, if you are looking for something to use on a chalkboard rather than for paper, I would not purchase this chalk as it is extremely dusty and messy. I only let my kids color with this in the garage, and even then, they came inside with their hands, faces, and clothing covered in bright colors that will probably stain.

I used these for a chalk craft in my church youth group. They worked perfectly and the colors were very pigmented and bright. Some of them arrived broken, but that was fine. I ended up breaking them in half to share with all the kids and they worked better using the broken end.

I'M AN ARTIST!Nice colors, chalk looked like it was kicked around in the box. Packaging sucked... like nobody gave a damn about the product. There needs new management at Prang's quality control department. Every GOT DAMN piece was broken!!

Opened the box only to find all of the orange and two or more each of red, blue, yellow, and rose were broken. Perhaps packing them better than a handful of shredded bits of paper in the box is something they should think about doing.

I really like the pigments in these chalks. They are saturated and vivid. They apply smoothly once the top sealing layer is pierced, just a drag it a couple times along a chalkboard or sandpaper will take care of it.Hint for keeping your hands clean:Cut a length of straw (wide one works best). Slice the length of the straw and wrap it around your chalk. Don't need no stinkin' $10 chalk holder. The chalk will stay in place and be ready to use. If you have skinny straws, just wrap the chalk in two segments of straw. If your chalk is getting short, no problem, the straw also acts as an extension to lengthen.Cheers!

Good quality chalk, but just received via currier and opened the box to find 102 pieces of 144 broken and many as small as 1cm. The other box of chalk I ordered was perfect with no breaks so not sure how this was so so damaged (box looks in perfect shape). Kids were sad to find their new homeschool chalk so damaged.

This chalk is incredibly soft. Even though it's meant for artwork on paper, we use it as chalkboard chalk. The colours are amazingly vibrant (even the black!), and despite its fragility it holds up decently well in the hand. I highly recommend this set for both art on paper, as well as science and mathematics on the blackboard.
