I replaced our old irrigation box. This one is designed very logically - so easy to program. Keeps my yard plants nicely watered.

An important thing is that the Seller reached out to me directly by phone to confirm that this item was in fact exactly what I wanted. I had a Hardee Irrigation unit that was not working well; the LCD was not showing characters properly, all the switches were stiff, and the manual "ON" button was stuck.The replacement Irritrol RD600-EXT-R Rain Dial unit is a pretty exact replacement. The box size is identical; the mounting screw locations are a 1:1 match, so no new holes in the wall are needed.Pro: Exact match, no new learning curve. The physical box size and layout is the same as the Hardee unit, and it does the job. The electrical control board has changed, but I had enough slack in existing wiring to make things fit.Con: The fit/finish on the new unit is lacking. The control portion casing has a gap on the top; the label on the face does not line up with the switch positions. For example, moving the switch one click to the right, the pointer is sitting on the label between position 1 & 2 — same thing for other positions on the face of the unit. Also, the RD600 external case, the plastic feels less rigid and thinner compared to the Hardee unit. The "Rain Dial" label on the front of the box was not well aligned and had a bubble where the label was not sticking to the exterior case.Installation of the wiring took longer than expected as the transformer is a different style than the previous unit; the transformer has an electrical nipple extending downwards through the external case. I needed to flip the transformer 180 degrees vertically to make the electrical connections to the incoming AC wires. Re-fitting the plastic frame around the inside of the box took forever as the rotated transformer now kept things from fitting together. Finally managed to get all the clips to snap into place, but the bottom right corner still sticks out 1/8". I can close the outside lid, so things should be weather resistant. Just be aware in case you need to make the electrical connection the same way.

I installed this unit to replace an identical controller which had failed after 13 years. If I can get 13 years out of each of these in the extreme Arizona weather with 110° heat in the summer with sun shining directly on it, I consider that to be pretty durable. I don't think I've had anything else in my yard last that long (pool pump, pool filter, landscape lighting, hose reels, etc)I stayed with this unit because I find it very intuitive to use. There are so many programming options, with each of the zones being able to be set to their own watering times within each of the 3 different programmable intervals. For example, you can have Program A set to water once a week on Wednesday, and within that program you can have the grass watered for 10 mins, shrubs for 2 hours, trees for 3 hours. Then Program B could be set to water 7 days a week, and within that program you can have pots watered for 10 minutes. I use program C to fill up my fountain twice a week, I just run it for about 10 minutes each time with a bubbler to top if off. It was a lot easier than trying to run a new water line and installing an auto-fill system!It was a direcl plug-n-play as I expected, and only took me about 30 minutes to install. Here's to hopefully another 13+ years with this unit!
