Solid Addition to the Brent Edstrom Series
The Brent Edstrom Jazz series quickly became my favorite after I purchased the first 2 or 3 of them. I've been addicted ever since. The Cole Porter collection is very good, probably not my favorite, but it's running with a tough crowd. It's possible the Cole Porter's works don't have the structure that allows the basic melodies to be extended into interesting jazz solos. Most of the arrangements pretty much stick to the original melody/rhythm line – which in the case of Porter stands up pretty well. That being said, the entries to the series featuring Irving Berlin, and Gershwin are a bit more satisfying in my estimation. My all-time favorite, though, remains the Jazz Ballads volume. I Brent keeps producing these treasures for the intermediate player. Volumes for Jerome Kern and Richard Rodgers would be very much welcomed here.

brilliantly, I might add
This review covers ALL of the music books in this piano solo jazz series that I've purchased....I think 10 titles so far. Here's the deal ... I have played piano for 58 years (since I was 5) ... and I am an extremely proficient sight reader of music. The flip side is...even after so many years...I cannot play by ear, or improvise at all. Not the least bit. And I've always said:If only some arranger could write down improvisational riffs, and jazz chords, and other clever things, I could play it by reading it.Guess what, folks? These books do that....brilliantly, I might add. These books have given me a new lease on my piano playing life.I'm at the keyboard all the time now. LOVE these books!

It's Delovley !
CP and BE make a great combination. "Begin the Beguine", "Ever'y Time We Say Goodbye", and "In the Still of the Night" are standouts in a strong collection.

If You Only Want One Piano Solo Sngbook of Cole Porter's Cassic Songs Ths Is It.
This collection of arrangements of Cole Porter's music stands out far above any other collection of his music that I own or have seen and there are many out there. It contains a fairly extensive representation of his work, 22 songs in all, covering most of his best known tunes. The arrangements are lush and full sounding but not overly complicated. If your piano playing skills are anywhere in the intermediate range than you'll probably be able to easily bring these arrangements to life. If you're skills are somewhere in the early intermediate stage it may just take you a bit longer to learn them. Compared to most of the other volumes in "Jazz Piano Series" these arrangements are easier but they still sound great. I'm very pleased to have this collection.

Cole's Hits: Familiar and Fun
Don't know about you, but sometimes I just need a change. This book includes so many "classics" that it is fun to play. I own many versions of these songs, some are bare bones and some are intricate arrangements. Those included here are somewhere in the middle. Nice to have a collection at hand for a nice sound, and variety of style. I'm enjoying it!

For advanced beginners
I found the the phrasing and style seemed very much the same, piece to piece. It is a book for beginners only. Other reviews seemed to indicate it was for more advanced players but I did not find it to be so.
