Fantastic book full of whimsy and friendship!!
This book blew me away!! I knew based off the synopsis of this book that I would adore it.Wimsical middlegrade-CheckLovable characters-CheckBeautiful illustration by the author-CheckUnique magic system-CheckAtmospheric snowy setting-CheckAwesome foxlike side character-CheckOk that last one might be just for me. Lol. but if any of those pique your interest pick this book up and give it a go!So first thing I want to comment on is the illustrations in this book. I admit I'm a sucker for good illustrations in a book. But these were top tire. Its such a fun and whimsical art style, and some of them are absolutely breathtaking. I love that they are done by Littler himself. There is something so fun about seeing the authors imagination in both words and pictures! Our main character Ash is such a well written character. He is lovable and fun. But you also truly feel for all he is going through. You honstly want to pick him up out of the bad times and give him a hug. The rest of the cast is filed out with such a wonderful list of characters that you cant help but want to know everything about. Everyone you meet is so vivid and did I mention that the author does his own illustration so you can see exactly how he imagined these wonderful characters. You have Lunah the energetic and exciting new friend and first person around Ashs age to really accept him for who he is. This friendship is so touching and you feel so happy that Ash FINALLY has a friend that he can have adventures with or share his secrets to.Then you have Tobu, his standoffish yeti guardian that has somewhat reluctantly taken Ash under his wing. The growth of that relationship is something beautiful to behold, from resistance on both sides to caring and understanding. Cant wait for book two to hopefully learn more about his backstory. Then you have the rest of the frostheart crew. You have Captain Nik a strong and sometimes strick leader. You have Master Podd the vulpis first mate and did I mention I love any foxlike characters in books!! You have Shaard the mysterious quiet crewmate that keeps to himself and might have secrets that could help Ash along his journey. And so many more that I could go on forever. But they are painted so wonderfully with Littler's words that you hardly need the beautiful illustrations that he has created for them. (Have I mentioned the illustrations enough)I also love the unique take on a magic system. A magic system that uses song to communicate with massive creatures. Sign me up. It is such an interesting magic and its so fun to learn right alongside Ash. Hope to learn even more in the next book!!If you have thought about picking this book up, and anything I have mentioned catches your fancy, stop thinking about it and do it!! I promise you will not be disappointed!

Climb aboard the Frostheart for a great fantasy read
A fantastic new MG fantasy with a unique setting and plot premise... action and adrenaline at every page turn. Fun illustrations and sassy characters.

Good characters and adventure, but something of an unsatisfying ending.
This is a cute middle grade fantasy with a lot of imagination and some good mild creepy vibes. A great introduction to the fantasy genre for early readers. There is a lot of somewhat advanced vocabulary for age appropriate readers, but the narrative does a good job at providing context clues for those terms the younger readers may not be familiar with. The characters are very colorful and entertaining, with a good creation of tension from beginning to end. Speaking of the end, that was a tiny bit unsatisfying due to what amounts to a cliffhanger despite the resolution of some major events. I look forward to reading the sequel when it becomes available later this year.

Looking for a new favorite series?
Y’all!!Picture me as Stefan from SNL: This book has EVERYTHING!! Yetis, walruses, friendship, action, evil, and even floundering fish farts!!Ash’s parents have left him in the Fira Stronghold for an eternity, promising they’d be back. He has been shunned by his people who are terrified of his Singing. When the Frostheart sleigh stops in to trade, Ash decides to go with them to follow the clues they left him in a lullaby.I ADORED this book and I am SO EXCITED about having a favorite new series! Jamie Littler tells the perfect tale and it will resonate with anyone who has ever felt lonely or that they didn’t belong. His characters are truly one of a kind. While I did figure out who the “outcast” was, it is great fun getting there!! While I love the friendship between Ash and Lunah, my favorite characters are Tobu and Captain Nuk!!Also, one of the clear strengths in my mind is that Jamie does his own illustrations. They are GORGEOUS!! Also, they are so lovingly done that, unlike other books, you don’t have to try and imagine what characters look like or are doing. EEEEE!! They make my heart happy!!ARGH!! I have to wait to get through all the other clues before I can get to #2 (as IG sits there in my pile, mocking me)!!Buy this for readers of every age to introduce them to this magical world! And, if you’re twisted, buy this for someone who will soon be traveling to a cold climate!!

What an adorable story :)
I loved this book.Ash is a sweet kid. His story is one of figuring out where he belongs and I love stories like that. He has such a vulnerable side to him and his relationship to his Yeti Guardian is so endearing. I'm hooked on the series just to follow them and their friendship alone.I love Ash's magical abilities and the inclusion of so many lovely illustrations just really help to set the scene in my mind and offer up an added bonus to the overall story telling. I wish I was as talented as Mr Littler! My one criticism (small as it is) is that I got lost with the names of all the Frostheart crew. I knew the Captain and her second in command (LOVED THEM TWO), the creepy mysterious guy, the grouchy woman and then the random cook who told boring stories (underated side character!). Every other crew member was just a name and I couldn't figure out if they'd been relevant previously or had any quirk/personality specific to them that would make me like them. The use of magic, technology, unusual creatures and species made this book so engaging and curious and fun to read. I can't wait for book 2 to arrive :)
