A Macaulay classic
As a long-time fan of Macaulay, even as a child, I somehow managed to miss out on this one. It is deserving of the acclaim. The illustrations are classic Macaulay, detailed and mesmerizing, and the text is devoid of embellishments yet captivating. This brings back great memories of 70s/80s childhood summers stocking up on similar books at the library…Macaulay, Biesty and Virginia Lee Burton. Easily worth the price and then some.

Castle
Another award winning book and well deserving of it. All kinds of interesting information. One thing he could have mentioned is that spiral stairs were designed so that the attacker (if he was right handed as most are) would be at a disadvantage as the stairs would turn clockwise so the attacker could not swing his sword easily.
