Really works
This product filled a very specific need for me, and I have to say that I was skeptical when ordering that it would actually work. However, after setting it up and using it a few times, I can tell you that it performs exactly as advertised. I was very happy with the image that was converted to VGA, and thankful that Hyperkin made this product, since there doesn't seem to be another good option out there.Deducted one star for the fact that you have to plug the device in to some kind of power source via a USB port, and this was not immediately obvious to me. If there were instructions that told me I needed to do that, I could not find them. Only took a brief amount of time to figure it out, though.

Its ok. just ok
I like the design. The power source is a cure and a curse. You cant plug it in anything usb. A game system or pc will work. My main complaint is when im playing the wii, the screen blanks out for a few seconds. During those heated moment the last thing that needs to happen is that. I did notice that if i had a fan in the room and I'm changing the speed settings, the adapter went crazy with the blanking out so right out of the gate it has poor interference resistance. You get what you pay for i suppose

In the great battle between HD Box Pro and VGA 2000.... VGA 2000 WINS!!
This a dual review of sorts, as I am comparing the VGA 2000 to another product I purchased which I found dissatisfactory: the HD Box Pro.I am a PS3/Wii owner and I'm too poor at the moment to buy myself a nice HDTV. Seeing as I have a 20 inch Viewsonic PC LCD monitor in my room which rarely ever gets used (since I primarily use my laptop) I figured I'd find myself a good VGA adapter and put it to some good use.The VGA 2000 by Hyperkin was not my first choice when I was shopping around for VGA adapters. The first one I tried (and luckily did NOT pay full price for, more on this in a minute) was the HK-based HD Box Pro. I did a LOT of research, read a ton of reviews and figured it would do the trick. The HD Box Pro normally goes for almost $75 (that's the unit price including shipping) but I was lucky enough to find a guy getting rid of his on craigslist for $25. So, I picked it up.Boy... I was glad I didn't pay full price for it.The positives:- Comes with audio input/output ports so that you can actually use your monitor speakers if you got them (or just use an external audio source)- The unit has MANY different options to tamper with to fit your lcd tv/monitor just right (color, resolution, and aspect ratio)- It comes with a remote control so that you don't have to reach for the function buttons on the device itself.Sounds great, doesn't it?The negatives:- It DOES need an external power source (a/c adapter included).- Unfortunately for me, upon hooking my PS3 up to my LCD monitor with the HD Box Pro, the monitor was LITTERED with "static" lines. These lines only got worse with continuous usage.Next, I tried to contact HD Box Pro support. After emailing them throughout the month of February with NO RESPONSE, I gave up. I had no choice but to find another option.Then... I found the VGA 2000 here on Amazon. After reading a decent amount of the other reviews here, I decided this might actually work (not to mention the price was right, being only about $25 including shipping)One thing I noticed was the size of the VGA 2000 unit. If you have a cable box, it's about the size of a standard DVR remote. And, unlike the HD Box Pro, your audio cables MUST be plugged into an external source. Also, it's powered by USB, so your options are to either plug it into a USB port (cable included), or if you're like me, you can use an old cell phone USB charger as a power adapter. Now, for it's actual performance...The VGA does not have the customization options that the HD Box Pro has, but IT WORKS!! As for the resolution, it outputs at 720p max, but the picture is crystal clear with no degradation.I have tried it with my Wii, PS3 and my Panasonic Blu-Ray player and everything works great.So... take it from me. I've put in the time and money JUST to get my HD systems running on a decent monitor. And, once I DO get an HDTV, I will DEFINITELY use the VGA 2000 to plug my Wii into its VGA port (as I wouldn't need it with the PS3 since it's got an HDMI port).Good buy! You won't be disappointed.

The best VGA box is also the cheapest.
I've used a lot of VGA boxes. A lot of them have many features and usually cost close to or well over a hundred dollars. You might wonder why I bought this one at all if I've used several other devices similar to it. The reason I took a chance on this one is because almost every transcoder box I've used has had some small issue that I wished it did not have--and it couldn't be fixed or worked around. This is, of course, when the box in question didn't have a serious issue making it unsuitable for my purposes. So when I saw this one for under $30, I thought I had little to lose and took the gamble.I'm so glad that I did. As noted in other reviews here, this VGA transcoder box will not only transcode, it will also upscale the output resolution to 1600x1200. If you want both of these things, this box is SUPERB. The output is crisp, the image is rock solid and animates perfectly. The thing to bear in mind is that this box will output 1600x1200 REGARDLESS OF THE RESOLUTION THAT YOU PUT INTO IT. If you give it 480p, it will give you 1600x1200. If you give it 720p, it will give you 1600x1200. If you give it 1080i, it will give you 1600x1200 (but interlaced!). If you give it 1080p, it will give you 1600x1200. That's all there is to it. From here you really need to decide if your screen can benefit from this. A lot of LCD screens in the modern age do not have native resolutions of 1600x1200, so even though this resolution is very high, it might look blurry if you are trying to use it with a widescreen 1920x1080, 1920x1200 etc. And that is, if it works at all--some digital screens just aren't so forgiving about different resolutions. This box works SO WELL, and is so cheap that I would still recommend giving it a try in cases such as this, but you will want to get it from a reputable seller that will accept the unit in return if it does not work well (or at all) for you. I use mine with two 27" CRTs which support 1600x1200 and the box is absolutely perfect with them. I got two more to use with my plasma HDTVs and with a native resolution of 1920x1080 they work perfectly with 1600x1200--I know it's not the screen's native resolution, but you are hard-pressed to tell when viewing it properly calibrated to the screen. It really doesn't get any better than this for a transcoder. Most devices actually tend to do one or the other, either transcoding only, or upscaling only. Or, if you come across one which actually does both, it does one of them great and the other crappily, or both mediocre. This box is simply excellent all around, which is shocking considering its extremely low price.
