So, it really doesn't matter if Dynasty seems to be a rather half-hearted effort from the man who many consider to be the best rapper this side of Rakim. Although presented as a solo album, Dynasty showcases the Roc-A-Family, giving extensive mic time to Beanie Sigel and Memphis Bleek, who gets a whole track (the Ja Rule-esque "Holla") to himself. Amil, whose own solo album, All Money Is Legal failed to reveal her inner queen, turns up to rhyme the hook on the posse cut, "You, Me, Him & Her." Jay-Z keeps his flow fairly straightforward here, and the beats neatly reflect his icy, relatively soulless lyrics. But of course, as the man himself has said, you "can't knock the hustle." --Rebecca Levine

Great Jay-Z album, most own if you're a fan...
I recently started collecting all of Jay's earlier work that I had not purchased when initally released. Though he's an incredible rapper, stays relavent to the game, his older material has classic hits/material that any HUGE Jay-Z fan needs to own. It's like discovering a shiny diamond in the middle of a freshly plowed field on Grandpa's farm. The beats, the rhymes the way he speaks in his earlier material, you can tell the up and coming rapper was HUNGRY and kept looking for success and hits too. By the time he met up with Kanye, his material improved that much greater. Most definitely recommend this album. Starts off TOP heavy and then weakens near the end; however, still a class Jay album to own.Thanks.

Head-bobbin classic.
Another powerful album by the King of New York. The beats are tight, the lyrics are fresh, and the timing is crisp. Add it to the iconic anthology of the immortal J.
