Mayhew Tools 61366 Dominator Pry Bar Set, 5-Piece Curved, Black Oxide Finish

I thought I had reviewed these already, but I just came across them again and no review. Well I have to fix that because live is too short for bad tools and you have to recognize the good ones. I have an assortment of Harbor Freight pry bars (some broken and some not) some old Craftsman pry bars with chewed up handles from abuse, some really old no name lady slippers, a damn useful but don't use it for serious prying index-able head Gear Wrench bar, and a small blue handled OTC tool pry bar I bought to put in my trailer go bag for pulling the trailing arms off of trailer torsion axles when the "Maintenance Free" hubs let go. I picked up that 8" OTC bar because I needed something that fit in the tool bag and I would trust my health and safety on the side of the road to and I remember them being fairly high quality and they were highly reviewed. Imagine my surprise when the tip of that bar bent easily with just light one handed pressure trying to open up the pinch bolt on the trailing arm, I tried using the striking cap to tap it in with the copper faced hammer I use and the tip mushroomed instead of opening up the arm. I had to resort to using a screwdriver as a wedge to loosen it because the bar I bought couldn't get the job done. After that I went back on the hunt and reconsidered these pry bars and after much debate pulled the trigger rather than spending the money on a Snap on bar. One of the reasons I picked up this set is because if the 8" bar didn't do the job I would just go further up the size scale until I found tone I did. Glad I did, the 8" bar in this set is night and day better than the OTC bar. I am assuming that the OTC bar was defective, made out of some sort of black cheese instead of painted steel, and a calmer head may have tried to exchange it for another one instead of testing its aerodynamics in flight but I definitely don't regret buying the Mayhew Dominators, these pry bars are a pleasure to use and feel great in the hand. The striking caps take a beating without getting all tore up (since they are not painted) and the are designed for the abuse rather than all plastic handles. The tips are all in great shape still and the shafts don't flex like the cheaper bars where you risk causing your self some serious rebound damage when the tip slips, dangerous even if they don't break. I swear they are really worth it, just spend a few bucks on this set and pocket all the difference in cost from the tool truck versions. The OTC bars may have a great review and maybe some people get better quality than mine, but that wasn't my experience and these guys hold up. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive, but made in the USA and darn good quality.

Excellent Quality. These get used daily. If you don't have access to a tool truck. I encourage people to purchase these. Never skimp out on prying or striking tools. Mayhew is an excellent tool truck alternative. They are USA made. This set will never let you down.

Quality tool with a great feel

These are excellent pry bars, in a range of useful sizes, and USA made. Mayhew is the manufacturer (or was) for a number of tool truck brands. These are tool truck quality for a much better price. Would recommend.

I love my set of these pry bars! I work with them every day and they do as they should (sometimes more) as a pry bar. My knock on it is one of them came slightly warped. Doesn't effect the ability just an aesthetic fault. While not as good as a brand like Snap-On you really can't beat the price. 5 of these for MAYBE 1 Snap-On of the smaller sizes. Buy these till they break IF THEY BREAK.

Just got theses so time will tell but I have had a chance to use them changing out the struts on my car. They feel very sturdy and so far have worked very well. The handles are comfortable and the bars seem to be very strong so far.

does the job cant beat the quality/price point

These bars are a bargain, period. Made in USA with a lifetime warranty. Great small to medium large bars for any auto tech or any industry that require the use of controllable sized pry bars. These are not huge 4 and 5ft bars intended for heavy duty hanging on with all your weight trying to lift 500 lbs so please don't compare them. They are not intended to do the same things as your $300 a piece snap on bar. These bars perform great at the jobs they were intended to do. Right tool for the right job.

Great buy when they are at the Amazon US price, expensive when at price Australian resellers sell at. As good as snap with more in the set.

Well made product at an affordable price

very similar tip size and angle as the snap on pry bars. used and abused for a year with no issues. the logo on the handles rubs off pretty quick. The tray they come in was very cracked on arrival, it is paper thin sorta brittle plastic. i am still able to use the tray as a storage spot for them but wouldn't be able to pick the tray up with them in it without them all falling out.

Bought these for work. No issues stands up to the typical abuse
